Yes. It's useful.
No. It's not gimmick.

Depends. High ISO is useful for those who need high ISOs. For those who don't, like landscape or portrait shooters, high ISO does nothing to them.

ask someone who was taking a very important shot with no chance of reshoot and :

1. shot at low iso and got motion blur

or

2. shot at high iso and got a very very grainy picture


and then you will know how important high ISO is!!
