This is the part I hate most, how often do you clean yours. I find that if i don't clean for a month the water flow gets very slow.

i scrubbed the no 1 ceramic filter once every 2 weeks. one question though. what damage to our body does ingesting chlorine in our water over the long term?

Last week finally have chance to see my chinese doctor.
I asked her about Diamond water. She said should be good, because one her patient have "blood"dun know wat wat problem. After drinking diamond water, her condition more stable. :)..

I think i will try it after my melbourne trip. The promotion still on right?
And remember the rose? I put the Dry rose (when it was alive, it drink diamond water) on my desk. My colleague ask me how come my dry rose so nice, got dark red colour. I think is the diamond water effect :). Might not make it long life, but it give the rose Radiant colour

I think there are a number of Water Treatment System in the market now. I think can do comparisons here and there. I am saving up to buy the AMWAY Water Treatment System. Cost $1600+. I think its one of the best out there.

don't know if psychological or not. my company just installed the diamond filter system.. now go toilet more often!:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

this was claimed by the diamond's dealer when he installed one unit under the 3 mths' trial programme. so far, it is almost 2 months, i do not detect significant improvement.

sometimes it maybe beneficial for the human body to be subjected to very slight contamination of water. this promotes and strengthens immunity against illnesses. if the water is too pure, the human body may take it for granted and renders a weaker immunity and easily fall sick.

after all, the quality of PUB water has far surpassed the stringent requirements of WHO, and additional filtering of the water is highly unnecessary. who knows, these filters will remove the traces of beneficial agents, eg flouride that promotes healthy teeth.

IMO this is a very wrong perception with many people.
Having clean filtered water at home would not reduce your immunity against any illness or whatever bacteria.

We’ve got all the chances and opportunities to get ourselves contaminated everyday.
Water that is added to the food we eat, the soups, the coffee and syrup drinks that we buy in the coffee shops and food courts, how pure and clean can they be?

Do you bath when you reach home? Do you change your bed sheet? Do you clean your house? Do you or your maid do laundries? If the answers are yes please ask yourself… WHY? Why do you wanna get them cleaned?

Why do you bath? Why do you even bother to change your bed sheet and why do you or your maid vacuum your house and get your clothing washed? Because you want it to be clean and healthy.
Home should be a place where it is safe, clean and protected so your kids can live happily. So what is wrong to have clean filtered drinking water at home?
After getting contaminated outdoor for the whole day what is wrong to have a nice clean water to drink at home? Why are you denying your kids or family this only opportunity to drink clean water?
No way its going to shut down your body immune system.
Engineers and operators in semi-conductor industries works in ultra pure cleanroom 12 hours a day. Are they more prone to fall sick?

Yes PUB has done a pretty good job. But they can only do their best at the SOURCE. The water we drink flow through miles of pipe works and eventually stored in the water tank near our home and then pumped through smaller pipes by water pumps to our taps. Do you have any idea when the pipes were last replaced? And how offen do they replace the water pumps?
Have you ever got a chance to study the internal of old water pipes? Try sticking your small finger into the open end and twist it around and when you pull out your finger, I dare you to put it into your mouth, to suck and swallow all the residue.

And regarding the fluoride, you can always stick to tap water for brushing. And by the way, correct me if I’m wrong, there is also fluoride in the toothpaste.
Unless you never brush with toothpaste then its another story.

I guess ultmately the reason that people are questioning the installation of water filter is COST.
Given a choice Fathers are more willingly to spent on new DSLR, lenses and fastest flash drive they can find when they got the money... ;)

At least install the basic type of water filter. They cost no more than a 70 buck..

Hi Bernard, I'm not sure about AMWAY water treatment system but try to avoid RO water treatment system.

RO water are ultra pure water. Consuming RO water for a long period of time is not good for the human body.
If the consumer of RO water does not take in enough nutrition from his/her daily diet for supplement they will feel weak as RO water, been ultra pure, may in turn dissolve and drain out minerals from your body.
IMHO elders, infants and kids should try to avoid consuming it as daily diet.

Safe from what? Why do the authorities go to the trouble of putting Chlorine in the water? So that they will get a sick population that will push up their health care costs? Chlorine is bactericidal, it kills the baddies in the water that give you dysentery and cholera, amongst other things.
If you go swimming for any length of time, you will receive a whopping dose of chlorine. You don't need to ingest it, it comes into contact with your mucous membranes and gets absorbed, it is volatile, you inhale plenty of it. I say again, the amount of chlorine you receive in your body from a short swim at the pool is many many times greater than drinking tap water for a few months. If it were true that low levels of Chlorine exposure were a serious health hazard, then all professional swimmers would have significantly shortened lives right?

I've seen the tactics of these guys trying to tout naturalistic remedies and the like, they are all the same. They take a little bit of science, twist, distort and exaggerate, and suddenly you have a big SCANDAL, HEALTH RISK, blah blah blah. Plenty of sexy theories and conjecture, but not one bit of DATA to support their contentions.

Yes to a certain aspect chlorine is effective. But authorities uses chlorine not only because they are effective but also because chlorine is the CHEAPEST way to kill the baddies in the large quantites of water!

Chlorine doesn't kill all the baddies. At least cryptosporidium is immune to chlorine. Read what happen in Milwaukee in 1993
Read the last line "Water-quality standards and the testing of patients for cryptosporidium were not adequate to detect this outbreak."

The fact is chlorine when bounds with some other organic chemicals ever present in water will become toxicity. It will forms compounds known as THMs (Trihalomethanes), which are known to be carcinogenic.

Try search for the meaning of the word “carcinogenic” or “carcinogen” on the internet or dictionary.

The compounds can cause cancer in vulnerable people. Of course THMs exist everywhere. Even on your BBQ chicken wings. So the next question is how much is too much?

In Europe the EU standard says that a maximum level of 1ppb (parts per billion) of THMs is safe but in the United State the maximum is decided at 100ppb. With such wide differing standards, it seems like nobody really knows what is or isn’t the safest level.

On the other hand no one knows if he/she is vulnerable to cancer or not.
Have you ever ask question like why that old man down the street smoke 5 packets of cigarettes a day and is drunk whole day long can live to the age of 90 and the little girl next door was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 10?
There is no deniable that someone is just more prone and likely to get cancer than the others. But you don’t know until cancer cells start growing in you. It could be your beloved dad, mum, kids or wife. It could you yourself.

I am pretty sure you would want them to be safe right?

It is good that we trusted that the authorities responsibliy to ensure water are safe from the source to our taps. But it is our own responsibily to make sure that the water is still safe from the tap to the glass and into our body.

Just my 2cts worth. Feel free to comment.

Two litres or 2000cc of water is the minimum for our body to function properly. If you drink less than that, your body is in a continuously dehydrating state.
You may not feel thirsty and you will still live like normal. But along the way somehow illnesses may develop.

For me I try to consume an average of 4 litres of water everyday.

Yes, I know what a carcinogen is. Its in the air I breathe, the water I drink, food I eat, exuded by tree back, in the UV light from the sun, in emulsion of the film I used to touch, in the soap I use, formed by the bacteria in my gut, an unavoidable consequence of being alive.

Unfortunately, its all in your genes. ;p How much is too much? To me, the amount that causes a perceptible rise from the baseline occurrence would be a good starting point.

And this is exactly how people like "Diamond water" sell their products. "Better safe than sorry!" . An alarmist, attention grabbing and resonant cry which wrenches many at the gut, but ultimately, hollow and unsupported. Well, show me one bit of data (anecdotes don't count!) that any of these actually result in some form of health benefit, and maybe I'll change my mind.

Hello,

Maybe you gouys should have a look at the Amway water treatment systems, it is cheaper and i feel what they claim is true and the baisc thing that it does is:

Kill germs - by UV light
Filter out contaminants but still leaves necessary minerals - through A patented filter system

Saw a demonstration of the machine was quite impressed, basically they pour "tao you" black sauce through a special see through casing of their filter and after the water came out from the filter process it is clear drinkable water.

I have to say though no one dares to try and drink the water lah.

None the less the claims of the product and the explanation given plus the test carried out on the product is proof ebiugh for me to buy it. :)

Hmm seems to have som any people giving their opinions here, actually why dun people just go to the respective company, attend all their testing session and as the questions.

Whichever you feel more convinced then go ahead loh.

Seems there is 3 leading brand

Elken - RO Water + filters

Amway - Filters + UV

Diamond - Filters + energizing attributes?

CHeers

I’ve did some research previously. Honestly I did not come across any data or studies that support the claim. But I have come across tons of information on the internet on subjects like the relationship between chlorine and cancer and the water quality.

Please try google chlorine cancer water quality

This is extracted from a website.
...According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality, "Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine”

This is the link
Well people can say that its a commercial website and how true is their claim?

How about a report from the Water Quality Association from US?

Its a two pages article please have some patient and finish it.

So with so much information, why do people still need data to show that drinking clean non-chlorinated water is beneticial to health?

There are fathers who rather spend money on big cars, sons who willing to pay thousand of dollars for expensive cameras, husbands who buy big plasma TV but they question the purpose of paying even just a 100 buck or even less for a simple carbon water filter.

IMO the health of the family is just not their priority.
