Is COMEX price for Canon IXUS 860IS package good?

Hi,

I've been browsing the forum for a while, and have found it to be an excellent source of info for photography. Finally signed up as a member so that I can get more engaged in it.

I'm planning to purchase the Canon IXUS 860IS for my wife. The COMEX price is $669 and the package comes with:

2pcs SD 2GB
Digital Kit Bag
Case
Samsonite Travel Waist Shoulder Bag

Is this a good price compared to what shops like Cathay, John3:16, or shops in SLT can offer?

just call cathay/alan or go online and get a quote from them. forget calling john as they never pick up their phone.

that will give you a rough indication on the pricing.

at comex, the price is fixed but maybe due to outside street price, they may throw in another 1gb or 2gb card. i was at one such photo booth yesterday and was offered an additional 2gb card on top of their freebies. it was only 1pm so its not due to desperation of slow or low sales.

Thanks bro. Visited the suggested places over lunchtime and they are indeed cheaper.

The trade off is that the street shops will offer less freebies (e.g. 1pc of 2Gb SD card instead of two, no camera pouch) for the lower price.

However, Canon hasn't seemed to have launched the silver version of the 860IS to the street yet. Does COMEX have the silver version, anyone?

not sure if you tried john as they usually will include everything that's in the published promotion and still sell to you at lower than the published price. as for the camera pouch and laminate, i think you can try to squeeze them to add on for free or at a discounted price.

can't help you for the silver version of 860IS. i didn't even know got that model

anyway you got till sunday to decide but CP and John don't open on sunday so make it saturday as your decision day.
