I only surf clubsnap once awhile. I am a person would like to read for info for any camera update. But in looking for recently D700 news, I accidentally found this comment from a moderator. I am a person will try search for info but sometime I also would love to see some common topic just at the recent pages without go thru tedious search, spend time to play hide and seek game.

If a new reader posted a very common topic in the forum, I really don't see any harm and stupid about it. The initial purpose of forum is to post and ask, not search and find needle in the sand. Even if the reader posted something is already post. I believe some helpful read also don't mind to answer it once again and also helpful to aid him/her to more detail link refer back to old post. instead of asking people to be a pro search here. example, if a old man 70 years old, post a common question again, then the moderator will start to close the thread and ask the 70 years old man read, "asking the some old question again and again. Do a search please ppl".

I believe there will be better way to handle such issue. I also understand not easy to be moderator. unless your readers are just the same old people here. Just a thought.

regards :)

There is already a thread on D700 pricing here http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showt...=395745&page=9

Why can't just post thread instead of starting a new one?

Any members in Singapore are to note.

Camera bodies has no international warranty, ie Nikon Singapore does not recognised the warranty of any camera bought overseas. This has been stated many times by members here and yet there are still ppl asking the some old question again and again. Do a search please ppl

Also note that there is no GST in JB.

Anyway this thread will be closed and so with any future thread esp when there is already an existing one.

I think this is a fair comment and action on the Moderator part. He have a Forum to maintain and by consolidating all related common FAQ into a single thread seem to be the most reasonable thing to do. You wont want 100s thread of the same topic to flood this forum right.

If you are in CS or any forum long enough you will understand how irritating to be asked the same question over and over again. The search tools is not the friendliest but you do get reasonable result if you type in more than 3 characters.

it is a rather harsh move, common topics will always be posted & for years to come. maybe the mod should have requested the TS to lock the thread instead.

common topics include recommendations for tripods, cam, lenses (zoom, WA, tele, etc), location for wedding pics, model shoots. can always see similiar posts coming up.

i see no wrong in airing grouses, even if this is a free forum. as finding 1s own thread locked leaves a very unpleasant experience, Mods being human also miscalculate his/her own actions. sometimes too harsh, other times not enough is done.

will ideally, if possible, wait for a reply here.

I believe it's an oversight on the mod's part, perhaps as one may understand the annoyance over repeated similar threads of "search/query threads". I agree all parties should have more tact on what to write after clicking the "reply" button.

Likewise for the TS, maybe he would be better off doing a search on his requirement before firing off a query and hoping someone would dig the info for him/her or provide freely. I myself have been guilty of this many times in the past. All these while i got into my own verbal fights, flame parties, inciting lynchmobs and arguements with mods too.

Nowadays i do my own search. Till im sure there isn't info, then will i start a thread to asknot saying that im noble, but im actually grown tired of insisting having my own way all the time. There's no winners.

odd suggesting here (Kopitiam), maybe future threads of similiar nature will come with a post limit of say 14 replies? or could such threads be merged? :dunno:

....if you ask. You are a fool for a day... and if you don't ask, you are a fool forever!

i don't see anything wrong with it

there are other threads on that topic and all of then are current
why start another one?
just post in the current thread, not very difficult right?

or is it there is a race to chiong new thread count that i don't know about

Maybe it's better to lock the thread and re-title the thread with a prefix "common" or something that represents that it has been asked before.

That way, readers will immediately know that something similar was posted before and will naturally do a search.
When searching, searchers who see the "common" threads won't waste time to open it and look for the master thread instead.

Suggestion only.

btw suggestions and comments belong in the FAQs and Feedback forum
please DO NOT post here in the kopitiam

Topic not related to Clubsnap or Kopitiam. Thread closed. :bsmilie:

Please help to move it to to feedback then.

Treatment might be a bit high handed but still acceptable to me.

same sentiments, odd to post feedback in Kopitiam. this thread should be moved.

I'm siding with the mods. Dun think they are over-reacting cos it's really frustrating to keep seeing similar stuff being asked. What's so difficult about using the "search" function? At least the mods bothers to reply to the TS.

Hi,
I know it's quite frustrating to find someone asking the same question(s) again and again, but there are always new comers to this hobby every now and then. Also, I think not everyone know how to use the search function effectively and sometime the search function sometime just return too many posts... and most of them may be unrelated.

May be if the moderator find certain question asked too many time, he can create a FAQ or common question thread for the newbie.

Anyway, about the mentioned post, may be the moderator is in a hurry, but at least he answer the question.

Hmm... With increasing people buying online, may be one day Nikon will change it's warranty policy??

Have a nice day.

Actually I have an idea. Since Moderator can merge topic, Why not as a moderator help to merge the related topic together?
For example for sure there will be a newbie asking Nikon or Canon Better. To us is a topic that discuss over and over again. But to them is a new qns and they are requesting a guide. If we just tell them go do a search b'cos topic discuss thousand times, might as well delete the entire newbie section as the question they ask will sure repeat one day. I.e which lens good for landscape, which lens good for potrait. You sure the answer is always go do search?

The thread has served its purposes. It will not be closed. Thank goodness.

must educate the masses to follow the culture here
do you know how many new threads there are in a day?

mods are just volunteers with day jobs as well you know

an age old question will always be asked. i am aware it requires lots of time on the part of Mods, hopefully locking threads in not the oni option.

how about this?

issue a request by PM, letting the TS to lock his own thread by (yellow card) 1st would have sooth ruffled feathers, failure to comply with request within a certain number of hours then lock the thread (red card).

rational behind this is simple. Mods have the power to lock up the thread so does the TS, but since its not an offensive thread/post, allow TS some time to take the respond. situation not inflamed, 1 less :( face.

any comment on my 2cents? :)

Is not possible to educate someone who has not been here before. We can choose to ignore the question but not giving the answer go do a search. I find that the TS will feel unwelcome. I do made this mistake when I first came in. It makes me feel very uneasy and keeps me stay away from posting more to ask qns. Who know which qns is being ask tons of time? Must search before ask? Then why not do a search on the questoin asked automatically and the search result will display before he can click submit.
