Is this lens good for value?
It seems that there are more people mentioning 14-24mm / 24-70mm / 70-200mm.
Any one of you using AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED?
Is it a good lens to travel? I am now using D90; and will like to upgrade to D700 before end of the year.
thanks...
better to keep the money under your pillow, though last time people say bank. :bsmilie:You must know what you want. Buy the gear if you find that the focal length suits you ... not buy the lens and then figure out how best to use it. Although I recommend the newer AFS 14-24mm now, it's irrelevant if you hardly use such a beautiful (sharp, good contrast, great MTF, etc) tool. It may just be a very expensive item you leave in the dry cabi most of the time.

Wow... more expensive than the 14-24mm ! Considering that the 14-24mm is probably the best ultra-wide zoom for FX bodies in the world at present, the 17-35mm is not really good value for money.
What really make the 14-24mm great value for money is that it is faster (at constant f/2.8), sharper and cheaper than even Olympus' own Four-Thirds 7-14mm (at constant f/4). Don't know how Nikon can sell this lens at such a price. Reviewers used to say that the 7-14mm is so good that photographers would buy into the Four-Thirds system just because of the 7-14mm. I think that's true now for Nikon because of the 14-24mm.![]()
Guys,
Thanks for all of your advice, I got my D700 yesterday and 24-70mm![]()
