Hi guys, I've got a problem recently that my JVC ENG camcorder is too heavy (must install anton bauer battery, or original cell only can last 50mins)for overseas assignment, I have to buy a new portable camcorder.

I did some homework, and currently focused on HVR-Z7. I noticed it has 1/3 inch removable lens and CF card as recording media.

If I'm not wrong, Z7 kit lens has a 2.0 iris at widest, the lens on my JVC comcorder is 1.4 at widest (82mm...that's why). I would like to check with you guys, if my ENG lens will have better performance for poorly lighted scene as compared to the Z7 kit lens.:sweatsm:

Theoretically, the Fujinon ENG lens from JVC camcorder will be better, but it's not sony stuff...will it have any issue on Z7? Please give me some advise guys

Thankz:)

Just read the z7 brochure again, I think the iris range is from 1.6 to 2.0, there is 0.2 of difference after all...will this 0.2 iris help a lot in low light condition?

One thing strange about z7 kit lens is that...the iris range is so small...ENG lens can go down to F16...I don't understand this, please help

the iris specs should read F16 to F2.0.

To mount your fujinon lense on your Z7, you will need a 1/3" bayonet mount adaptor ring.
You'll also need to make sure that the servo controller is compatible to the Z7's interface.

If the range is really 1.6 to 2.0, it means the maximum aperture goes from f1.6 at widest angle to f2.0 at full telephoto. But as Dixon says, it could be f16 to f2.

hi bro, thx for the help

I just got Z7, there is manual mode for iris, but I can't find the iris ring on the Z7 kit lens...still reading the operating guide.

I just tried attaching the 1/3 ENG lens on Z7, it works great, and the servo is working too, ya, of course, it won't auto focus.

I think Z7 has a standard 1/3 bayonet mount, therefore does not require a converter. It can share all Fujinon 1/3 lens.

another thing is, the fujinon lens can stay at F1.4 through out the entire zoom range, but when I attach the kit lens, the iris won't be displayed on LCD...I can't tell what iris the camera is at...since i can't find the iris ring on the kit lens...

problem solved, I managed to go into full manual mode, the narrow and unmarked ring on Z7 kit lens is actually the iris control

DXN is right about the iris, at wide angle, the lens iris is at 1.6, when zoom out to the maximum, the iris is 2.0. The smallest iris you can go on Z7 kit lens is F11. This lens does not have a fixed iris through out the entire zoom range...

I wonder what is the dof like when fitted with your ENG lens. Any chance to preview it anywhere if you don't mind? :) I'm a Z7 owner too! ;)

ENG lenses it'll bound to have crop factor on the Z7 since the sensor is smaller 1/3". Have to find out how much crop factor or it might be impossible to get wide angle.

it looks weird...lost auto focusing ability but giving me a wider iris and zoom range

The ENG i use is from GY HD111E, it uses a 1/3 3CCD too, the crop factor will still exist?

Yup, the ENG starts from 5.5mm, the kit lens is from 4.4mm
