thats one good thing to join clubsnap..you dont need to travel..but u can see all the beautiful pics..yo zoossh,so what should i have done? take a wider shot?i dun really understand the blend in well part...tx for pinpointing my mistake.
I'm not too sure if I have the courage to go places like this alone.. :thumbsup:
dun need courage, i met girls travelling there alone too. but if can get 3 to share cab, that will be the most ideal.
i think i spent too long walking to the castle, and my cab driver came looking for me. he was like around his 60s and walked so many times faster.:embrass:23. a widow in gazor khan, i guess, if not for the iranian guys i met at the village, wouldnt have had the chance to visit this old lady, she doesnt speak english. she treated us to apples.she looked forlorn during some moments.

28. at first the boy was very accomodating, but the photographers i was with really shoot like "machine gun", so the boy got a bit pek chek after that.

dear people, decided not to start another thread, but there's another place to recommend other than alamut valley, it's abyaneh, a village near kashan. i managed to catch some autumn colours when i was there, the first time i saw autumn, will try to post some info on abyaneh soon. but do consider visiting iran, and if you do, abyaneh is a must.

it depends on the number of places u want to visit, if you just want to keep to the usual places, then two weeks are enough. i went only 23 days, but not enough, it was a rush though i tried not to rush, maybe too ambitious. didnt manage to trek when i was in alamut valley because of the snow, but if it's possible, i think 6 days is sufficient, i was there for 3 days.
cost wise, per meal is more ex, transport quite cheap, if you do not take cabs.i took, so was ketok again.
accomodation quite ok, according to my standards, but obviously u cant expect hotel style in alamut valley.

just saw yr series on yr Iran trip. Pretty nice images.
just some of my thoughts after seeing your images. btw, I am planning a trip to Iran at the Caspian region in May 2010.
There's limitation with a point & shoot compact camera. Go for a SLR which will give you more creativity possibilities. For landscape, you will need wide angle lens to capture the vastness. The use of colour ehancement & correction filters are also an important aspect of landscape photography. Also, you cannot leave home without a tripod for landscape photography.
In such secaries, you need the following filters:
1. Polariser - to saturate the colours & cut out stray lights
2. Neutral Density (graduated) filters - to balance out the foreground & background contrast & light level differences.
For portrait, the 35mm lens for environmental portrait is desireable or the 85mm lens to get what Steve McCurry do for his Afgan gal shot ie, close up protrait. It will be good to note that if you have a small flash use it to shoot the portrait, it adds a spark in the eyes of yr subject making them more "alive".

i have no solution. when it comes to shot of a distant landscape (ie. everything in the frame is far from you), you will be limited by your vantage (ie. standing point with respect to the things in your picture) and the subject itself. the subject itself has such limits, so no choice. it is just a point of note when you are looking at suitable frames to take.
all your subsquent landscape are much more pleasing. or perhaps i'm biased to colors.
thanks aveda for your advice. using my uncle's dslr, but apparently never use it to its full potential, just point and shoot,so you thought it's a compact.
havent tried using polarisers and the filters yet...will go read up. wanted to go for lessons, but havent too.

you can actually trek from alamut valley to caspian area. it's a 3 days trek, 6 to 7 hours everyday, but supposedly need donkeys to carry stuff. i wanted to do the trek, but it's winter...so i guess not possible, and i didnt have more time. will definitely do the trek when i revisit alamut valley, if i have the chance.
thanks zoossh, i think i still point and shoot, dont really know how to shoot from a different angle, like yours... will try to improve on next trip...hopefully..

the houses in Abyaneh has a unique reddish hue. if i m not wrong, the population that stays in abyaneh village is less than 1000.

it's nice just getting lost in the village, but we had a taxi driver that brought us around and we missed our chance. i stayed only half a day because the taxi driver pressurised us to leave, so do stay longer if you ever visit.
