Hi yilishengxian,

I like your IR portraits

For curiosity, I played with the brightness/contrast with "B" and found that dropping the brightness a little and upping the contrast a little,
the result looks even better on my monitor.

Cheers :)
Hi, thanks for helping to experiment alittle for me. Can you show me the ones which you adjust the contrast for? Coz when I did it, her eyes were affected alittle more (became alot darker).

a great improvement from your previous other posting pic., maybe is linda u working with:bsmilie:
Wah, wanna do a wedding IR theme shoot with her? ;p

Yes agree with quekky, this is a better try than the previous ones.

Putting the focus issue aside, my opinion is the IR pics should be better if you do some adjustments on the brightness/contrast. As Pablo mentioned.
Thanks teerex, I'm gonna try out more post processing

this is much nicer then the previous few attempts.

for the focusing issue, IR is a different wavelength from normal light, so your normal AF wun get u the correct focus for near objects. u need to focus based on the IR indictor on the lens (older lens have this red line), or just turn left a bit after u AF. trial and error the focusing, or use a smaller aperture

also it could be the subject moving due to long shutter, what speed are u shooting at? if that's the case u gotta up the iso or mod your cam
I was shooting at ISO 800, some on tripod, some handheld. The shutter speeds were 1/15 to 1/30 around there.

Focus should not be a problem.

I suggest, you frame your scene first then fit IR filter over lens, half press shutter for AF (D50, D70 can AF with filter on). Full press to shoot. Image should be sharp.

Or.
Frame, pre-focus, switch lens to "M" then gently screw on filter making sure not to move the focussing ring. Then shoot. Sharpness may vary a little to the above suggestion, 'cos as quekky mentioned there will be some focus difference in IR.

After this shoot, I tried the IR on myself. It seems there's really some focus difference in IR.

Here's an example :). Yes I know I very ugly, and I dunno how to pose ;p, gotta estimate by placing leaves on the floor to mark the focus area, then af on it, then screw on the filter, then manually turn back the focus ring.

Hey dude,

Not going to go into the technical stuff at all. Just the basics.

Your theme, concept or idea doesn't blend or go with IR effect. Not happening at all.

Remember we discuss this before in your first attempt, but seems that you forgotten about the discussion.

u mean with the IR filter on u can't focus? wah lau.. that's gotta be tough!!

Sorry, but this IS the idea which I kinda have in mind. Just like Hexlord had mentioned "She look a bit like a lady during CosCon", I wanted to create a fantasy style look, with the IR effect foilage and the false colours and so on, that's why this set of clothes were suggested by me during the discussion with her. This was one of the good chance (my first) in which I get to focus mainly to do IR shots on a model.

I've remembered that you have mentioned by you that people will look ugly in IR. I don't think so cos I've seen good examples like the ones in the book, suggested by yourself. I've bought THAT book by the way. Its a good book. It even tells you how to judge a person whether if that person is suitable for IR portraits.

Although these are not well done, I was trying to implement, what I had in mind, to produce these pictures with effort, whether during the shoot, or post-processing. These are not just point and shoot. And I won't wanna spend my time there in the sun just to create point and shoot images anyway.

Maybe it is just your preference and mine, which are different. There ARE people who appreciate these effects, otherwise, I don't think she'll want me to TFCD her in this.

I'll definately try to have more chance to the effects on different poses, but for those I posted, I like them :).
