I have never used a tripod for IR, not even when I was using an unmod D70 with R72 over the lens.

Ask the older IR shooters, they'll tell you.

Beside bringing my converted D70-IR, I am also bringing along my heavy manfrotto 055XPROB tripod, becoz i wanna try my hand at/learning the old skool "HARDCORE' traditional IR in long exposure mode on my unconverted monster Nikon D2H with B+W 092 filter :sweat:

Bro night86mare (his IR photogs in long exporsure) is my influence.
