Yup, get the cam according to what you want, not what others say, it is best if you can compare the images from the cams you are considering, and go to shops to try out the cams physically, before you make a decision.
Let me list the good pts of each cam, for g2 and s602z:
G2:
supports eTTL flash, this one quite impt
swivel LCD
very clean images, higher image quality
4MP
good noise reduction algorithm
has F2.0
(the ISO50 is closer to ISO80 or 100 as reported by various sites, after they use an exposure meter to meter the scenes)
s602z
dual memory slots for CF, MD, SM
6x optical zoom
range of F2.8 to F11 I think
usable interpolation to 6MP
high iso modes of iso800 and 1600, but at 1MP
fast AF, one-touch AF button
macro and super macro to 1cm, but zoom range limited in those modes
supports external flash but no TTL
min of iso160 gives good shutter speed for most shots, as long as image quality doesn't suffer (which I don't see it does, from the sample pics)
nice FUJI colours
SLR like body, good size and support
manual focus ring, but fly-by-wire
uses AA batts
I'm more inclined towards s602z.
