Always good to get a Taxi Driver's Vocational Licence for standing by in case of rainy days even for PMETs.
Especially for us engineers, tio chop or retrench at an age of 40 to 50 years old. Good luck finding another identical position with similar pay grade / remuneration package, at least have a backup rice bowl to fall back on immediately together with some savings of course.

I know some professional photographers do drive taxi as part time to supplement their income, wondering why so many people still think can make some quick and easy money to fund their photography hobby by doing freelance photography.

Where civil and structural sector is concerned, resident / field engineer positions are usually held by FTs. These middle management positions offer more learning opportunities and better remuneration but they are still getting a lot lesser than what the locals used to command.
Locals usually choose to work as design engineers. If that's you thing, its fine but I think they do miss out on some essential exposure. Sometimes, you just won't see the problem on site from your office window.
