eh u havent remove the insect yet?? :bsmilie:

That brings me to a point about using those vacuum food containers.

Has anyone tried storing their SLR in vacuum?

vacuum means no air, no mositure, no oxygen, bad for insect, good for camera. Just that those food containers are not very large. Maybe big enough for the body to go in.

So will a film or digital body have any bad effects when stored in vacuum?

Focus on some honey and see if the insect runs to the lens. :bsmilie:

err... and how are you going to draw out all the air in the container, may i know?

because if you're talking about those "vacuum" food containers, they're only at best, slightly lower in internal air pressure than the ambient. still has plenty of fungus spores you can't see (neither can i), loads of humidity (local air), and plenty of oxygen and nitrogen...

The container's cover is a hand operated mini vacuum pump, which you have to manually draw air out of the container. The manual for the container says its ok for keeping cameras...

ehh. so how is a dry cabinet better than a vacuum container ? Even if keeping in a dry cabinet, the spores are still plenty right? humidity wise - 30 - 45% right? and loads of oxygen / nitrogen right? Maybe temperature is controlled... any more differences?

My question is to ask will the difference in pressure will affect the camera?

Are we discussing the lice or the camera now? :dunno:

Anyway, about the spores - yes, if they're there, the dry cab does not get rid of them. It just inhibits their growth. Spores can survive in 'hibernation' mode for years. i read that UV kills them though, which is why a frequently used lens (assuming it goes out into the sun now and then) is unlikely to get fungus.

Roosevelt, get rid of that lice.
- If it secretes any chemicals and eats away any mirror/glass coatings, it will costs you a LOT more to recoat... more than the camera.

- If it so happens to move into the shutter/mirror path, itcan cause a jam or breakdown. Plus you have to clean up the insect juice sprayed all over your cam.

- If you can still see it in the viewfinder, it's probably ok, but one day when you don't see it anymore, well ... can be anywhere in the cam.

BTW, if you can see it, it's probably in the camera, not in the lens.

ya....i think i have some fear now...hahaa...din see the insect liao...but i think it still hidden in the camera....wow...i'm surpise there are so many ideas that i can learn from...putting it in the vaccum...will it realli helps???actually i intend to sent to the the camera shop to clean but it had disappear and i afraid if the insect is hidding away from the repair man....it onli mean that i wste money so i must wait for him to run around before i sent it for repair....by the way....ur toking abt the juice???wat kind of juice will it come out???urine i suppose??hahha

I am outraged. This is no way to treat a cute pet insect. If anything, you should be feeding it at regular intervals. I will be reporting this thread to SPCA.

Yeah, but to prove a crime has been committed, you actually have to *find* that insect. Which solves Roosevelt's problem... :bsmilie:

'Juice' i'm refering to the insect getting smashed by the mirror or shutter. Insect juice.
