Indie attempt

Points for trying. I see picture with too much red tone in it. Focus is off too. Nice expression by the model but I do suppose that the photographer is not conveying his idea well at all. So far what I see is that you are trying to mimick the effect and their style but unfortunately falling pretty short of the mark. Let`s say that you are trying too many things and not concentrating on any of them.

Example: Wrong usage of other languages, even uncommon english to try to make your pics feel more artsy than it really is.

'stop trying so hard to be different and don't do things haphazardly' does not equate to 'if you want to be different dont do it haphazardly' hence you are lying but that is besides the point. The point is i know what im trying to achieve here.

So uh mind sharing what you're trying to achieve in more detail? I'm not very acquainted with the term indie because it means so many things to different people.

it is an attempt on the less commercialised portraits where flawlessness and model flattery are of least importance(lesser pp on the face) and the raw individual being is put forth together with the attitude

you might be able to pull off this "indie" thing if there's a series of photos with similar execution. this way the "poor technicals" (for lack of a better description) don't look like a poorly executed shot on its own.

just think of the sean lee photos: if only 1 photo was shown on its own, it'll probably get the same comments as yours. but with a series then the style becomes a little like a unifying theme used to convey your ideas.

Well generally it's nice to see an attempt of a different nature. I believe composition can be improved given that the white background doesn't help in 'telling a story', so putting the model to the left is a bit 'wasted'.

I'm not quite sure of what kind of 'emotion' or 'feel' you are trying to convey, so it's difficult to comment. I would say that there is too much red and it ought to be reduced. I can understand the definition of Indie, but it's always good to see things as it is naturally. I mean frankly the model didn't appear that red to your eyes in the first place right? Unless she's a Red Indian :bsmilie: :bigeyes:

ya thx for comment maybe i should reduce the red in colour balance noted

I don't see what's the deal. I like it. Its unconventional.

oh, the only thing I don't like is the signature in the centre. change font? haha just my opinion though.

Personally, I feel that your watermark is as distracting as the lady's bikini tanline. But what are you trying to get across as being indie? Indie like indie music, arthouse movies? In this sense, if you are wanting to leave the viewer confused, you've succeeded at your attempt.

as far as i am concerned, the term indie means Independent, no matter commercialised or not. Independent movie, Independent band etc. :)

but the model is pretty for me. :D

Confused, dazed, you left me reeling in shock for more of your portraits. I've viewed your previous photos and apparently there exists a common link .. Theme, or rather a lack of one. Keep searching, perhaps it might even be in your backyard ?

thx for the comments appreciate them and thx for viewing my previous series too

hi hayden do realise that this style is not "less commercialised"
in fact, just open up an issue of Nylon magazine and take a look at the advertisements there. They are in the raw, grittier style seen consistently in Roxy ads, terry richardson photos, and I-D magazine
don't get too caught up in labels and terminology

the photo itself could do with less distortion, but I like the girl's look

if you are interested there's a photographer in singapore who works in a grittier rawer style, his name is Ivanho Harlim

it would be interesting to see some terry richardson-esque photos around here.

Thanks for the clarification. In that aspect I couldn't quite feel the rawness of the individual. In fact, I couldn't feel the individual too. Neither was the attitude there. Try to work more to bring out the emotions or the look that you want from the model. The photography is raw, but the subject isn't. I think that's what some of other commenters meant when they said you went off the mark.

Nonetheless, only you will know what you're really trying to achieve and whether you've done that, don't let my comment or other comments keep you from achieving your goals.

Cheers.

i love terry richardson's comicish style photography! big fan!

i think terry richardson's pictures evoke more emotions, however "crappy" his photos might look. but have you seen his editorials? they are amazing. i wonder why they aren't shown on his website.

maybe your picture will work as part of a series?

again, 2c.
