another thing i find an issue.. for a while nikon tells customers the DX format is fine. It is good, DX lens can be made cheap and light etc etc.. basically pacifying customers' demands for FF, next moment they come out with D3, and i am sure they will market FF "benefits".. Of cos, its all marketing. But i still dont like the change in tone..

I dont own many DX lens, mainly only the 18-200 and 18-70, but i wonder how those who started on nikon only few years back and have dump alot into DX lens..

Next i wonder how much is 2nd hand nikon 12-24 and 17-55 going to drop to..

Boy am i glad i held on to my FF sigma 12-24, nikon 17-35 and 28-70 :bsmilie:

All market talk lah.

BTW, your 17-35 and 28-70 has been replaced too.

By 14-24 and 24-70. So are you going to be sour about it?

Definitely good news for Nikon users, especially those that stayed on all the way till now

whee!! 14-24mm f2.8 full frame!!

wedding table shots will never be the same again!!!!!

YAAAAAMMMMMM SENGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG~!~!~!

I remember they once marketed the DX format fiercely stating "DX is the format of the future" and gave a x-years 'commitment to DX' after the 'commitment years' was over (in 2005 or 6) they have launched a FF sensor. :D that's great!

I wonder what happened to those who invested heavily into the DX lenses.

There was a FF vs DX format war in nikon sub-forum where die hard fans defended DX format to the bitter end, citing all FF sensors suffer from soft corners, light loss and all the blabbering and nikon was smart not to go the FF way, etc...

Now how? :dunno: "FF is good cos got real focal length FOV?"

 i've got my wide end covered with the sigma 12-24, so who cares whether it's a DX or FX format, can shoot can already :bsmilie:

Still go on shooting using DX mode on the D3. ;p Those who invested heavily in film lenses won't be disappointed. There are some DX lenses ranges which are not available for FF. eg 18-200VR (FoV equivalent to 27-300).

For 12-24, there's the Sigma which offers FF image circle. I'm die die going to save up for D3 if D3X is beyond my budget when it's announced next year. It would be good if a FX format D300X materialize some time next year also.

Meantime, I'm still happy with DX.

If you noticed, the image processor is able to correct CA which will be evident because of the AA filter for FF if used with non-digital lenses. That's why Nikon released some new lenses also.

I think this must be what Nikon has been working on before they finally feel comfortable to release an FF format. That show how much emphasis Nikon puts in the output from their cameras. I'm interested to see a side by side of the 1DsmkIII and D3X once they are available.

From another thread,
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1187901361.html

"Lateral CA correction Apart from the D3's high-ISO capabilities, I think one of the most significant developments in the D3 and D300 is their ability to correct for lateral chromatic aberration in-camera. What's particularly noteworthy here is that the correction happens entirely in-camera (for JPEGs, the same process can be applied to RAW files in the Capture NX software), without any need for pre-analysis of the lens characteristics. This means the improvement in image quality will apply to all your lenses, not just your Nikon glass, and not just recent lenses with a CPU in them, etc."

i'm still happy with my cropped sensor too. I just dun like how the marketing mis-lead ppl and change tone at a snap of the finger. makes me wonder what next? what's the road map? how many more FX format models are they going to release or is this a 1 off model? :dunno:

got mislead meh? DX lens still usable on D3 what, not like the latest model disadvantaged DX lens users, it just opens up the option of lenses

70-200 become 105-300 instantly at touch of button :D good idea also actually. This is a good point about Nikon, they dun have different mounts for the DX and FX all the same F-Mount

In the pipeline should be D3X though I do hope they come up with a more affordable D300X. Anyway, D300 is the flagship DX body now. Nikon has not abandoned DX.

The HSC mode of the D2X should be an indication of things to come, and it did!! :)

DX is still going strong. Very stong in fact with the launch of D300. Many users will still be using the DX format.

Nikon have always not ruled out a FF DSLR.

Was there a FF vs DX war? I always think that each has its strength.

oi, you say my sigma lens not original is it? :nono:

wrong choice of words.. not 'war' but 'debate'.

At least, I'd say Nikon is probably going to stick to 2 formats, I hope they don't introduce a 1.3x crop factor. Will be very confusing inded.

D3 FX format caught me by surprised indeed because there were speculations that it's going to be a 1.2x crop factor because Sony is going in that direction.

maybe that's why it took so long for the FX format to come out, making sure that D3 don't get released in a not here not there kind of state  good long term consideration both for users and manufacturer
