If you are using a lens with aperture ring and it is not placed at maximum aperture, the error will be FEE not ERR.
 

Its the shutter unit in your camera body. Nothing to do with the lens.

There is a life-span of the shutter unit.

But that's just my experience. Not sure whether your problem is the same as mine.

Best to send it down to NSC for a check.

I encountered ERR on D40 before. It was a problem with the battery chip in the body. I think the problem occurs in some batches of D80 and D200 also.
 

I send in the D80 today. They check and advise to change aperture and a chip in it. Cost me $190. Need to wait for 2 to 3 weeks. There gone my CNY photo shooting.;(:dunno::angry:

Tips: When you saw "ERR" message. Stop clicking any more to prevent further damages to the body. "ERR" mean shutter mul-function call nikon for advise.

I have already sent my camera to the service centre and they told me that the problem is faulty aperture ring. I hope they can fix it real soon.

Anyway thanks guys for your help!
