in dilemma need some guidance

u dun travel with it extended one mah..
if i sell everything i probably go for micro 4/3
dun like a fixed focus of DP-1 very much

I travelled for 11 days DIY plane-train-bus trip in Japan with D300 + 18-70mm + D60 + 18-135mm + Sigma 10-20mm. Two bodies, one for my son.

I travelled for 9 days backpack in Austria with D70 + 18-70mm + 70-300mm ED

Typically I carry on my dive trip S2Pro + 60mm Micro + 105mm Micro + 10-17mm Tokina Fisheye + D60 + 18-70mm (the last 2 for top side shooting) + Ikelilte housing + ports + twin strobe + arms + sync cords + wet lens + chargers + batteries.

But when out with my family in and about Singapore, I could be with D60 + one lens, maybe 60mm, may be 35mm, or 20mm, or 18-70mm or a compact Canon S70, or Oly for wet wet places, or SE C902.

To each his own if you talk about weight and how much you want to carry. From this string of responses it looks like the best solution is to sell your Nikon and go Oly's way, or Pany's way. Feel free to move on, as it is probably the thing to do for you.

BTW it is fixed focal length not fixed focus...

Get a 35mm f2.8 prime lens. It is really fast, sharp and compact. For casual shooting, remove the batt grip if you have one attached to your d300. It will lighten the load.

throw away ur camera bag and use neoprene wrap. it very lightweight and good.


i think ur problem abit psychological also. maybe u should go into certain areas of photography to sustain ur interest in the hobby.


m4/3 is certainly an area u might explore. the chief advantage of m4/3 is that it allows for more spontaneity because m4/3 easier to bring around compared to DSLR.

Agreed with some that you should sold off your D300+18-200mm.

Maybe get something like GF-1 or EP-1, compact enough and able to change lenses.

I have the same setup too. D300 is my 1st DSLR. 18-200 is my 1st lens.
I still find them and I find them not heavy because other setup are heavier.

I suggest you get a 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.8. They are quite affordable 2nd hand.

In any case, no point if you are not shooting much. Even if you change to another camera system, if you are not shooting much, what is the point right? So go out and shoot.

And for the bag, forget about it. Get a BlackRapid strap and it's just your strap, your body and your lens.

Or start eating your vitamins and exercise to gain some muscle.
