In America, hate speech is free speech

Rights to Bear Arms have become the rights to own an armory...

And the vast majority of them aren't even qualified on a Daisy BB gun either...this is partly what I mean when I say I wish my fellow countrymen would quit asserting 'their God given rights' so much. Hard for my country to do when the leadership is how it is the past 60 years. The world laughs at us and for good reason. It is because so many want to say we have the 'right'. Manifest Destiny look it up...kill kill kill...it is just insane

I really apologize for my triple post here but I wanted to add...

When they come for my fishing pole and Made in Singapore fishing reel is the day I will become a foreign worker in your country... :)

BTW...the NRA and any organization that lobbies my government for any favor whatsoever can kiss my Ang Mo ass as far as I am concerned...how is that for some hate speech??? LOL

I sometimes wish a bunch of you guys would immigrate over her near where I am and we could maybe put some order into this place.

America is such a big beautiful place...I'm afraid many of these morons that live here take that fact for granted. They talk about their 'rights' and do not even glance at what they really have laid before them. Surely such fools will come to ruin.

Guns are for killing...try not to kill...I have been told it is not something you want to mess with.

Train to be stealthy, wear camo, photograph birds and wildlife. That should be the way.

Strong in the (Singlish) force you are... LOL

Yes sir in Star Wars everyone has a blaster...it is those damn lightsaber wielding guys you have to worry about! :bsmilie:

Thxs for your insight Nikonzen... really appreciate the time you spent answering my question.

Currently there is an attempt to wash Asset Forfeiture laws off of the books and in some places this has been accomplished. It is definitely backlash by an ever increasingly agitated citizenry. Many things are going on in America today. Have you heard NSA is being reeled in maybe?

The political machine and corporate lobbyists are so firmly entrenched now I think it will be difficult to wrest control from them. I will say this for sure..there are Americans who are trying to just that. I think since JFK days our country is being held hostage by nefarious people and now they are beginning to lose their grip. We shall see.

I have a healthy diet of world current affair especially US. More variety then local. Which is also in some way of seeing what is done by other politician and citizen and then see how soon it happens in Singapore or Asia too. I am aware of that recent case too and it is good heheh for one the upper judicial system step into something good! heheheh... One up for Snowden.

And damn at least one brutality beating or killing caught on smartphone a week heheh.. and the kicker is the polices gets away with it.

Here is my view on gun ownership...

I received my first 'gun' as a ten year old boy...a Daisy BB gun not a pellet rifle. Killed so many birds with it I just am ashamed. Shot my sister in the ass once and then shot myself in the finger to keep her from telling on me...regret that also. First gun I ever shot was a 410 single shot bolt action shotgun given to me by my grandfather and still held for me by my mother. That was also very early maybe 11 or 12. Always under strict adult supervision. Then after the teenage years a whole slew of guns came my way...everything from 'bee stinger' 22 25 and 32's pocketable to AK-47 Norinco made in China..kick ass craftsmanship BTW don't ever let anyone tell you made in China is BS because it is not true. 30.06 WW1 era rifle sporterized with scope used by my PT boat driving grandpa in WW2. I have a good buddy actually a friend of my father's who turned me onto shooting HK full autos and one time I shot a silenced Ruger Mark II loaded with subsonic short cases with xtra long lead nose bullet to make cartridge a long rifle...all you could hear was the action of the slide. I do not hunt animals and have not ever hunted animals with a gun besides the mentioned birds. Now I shoot strictly with camera. I have not kept any guns in my home since the kids were born. Anyone who gives a four year old a gun is a moron and should not have neither guns nor children in my book. One set of grandparents do keep guns in the house they are in a safe however...the other set have them put away due to the grandchildren. This grandparent shoots bows and arrows and does live blade training Aikido with oldest boy instead. Guns are ever present in my whole story...the one gun I do have in my house is an old Crosman pellet rifle...at twenty feet I am a natural born killer with it. One shot to the eye and you are toast.

I believe a big problem with our police forces (and citizenry) nowadays is that they face a dangerous armed society. I would not want to be a policeman in America nowadays. I'm glad we have guns because knives would be crazy bloody.

As double d 123 says it is a way of life here. It came about because of the wild west frontier thing. You had to hunt to survive even in recent times.

All that being said I would gladly give up my right to bear arms to live in a place such as Singapore. Guns are fun to target shoot and fun to fondle like our cameras sort of. I have experienced them so they are not that big a deal to me. They are not toys. They must be respected.

I commend your founding father for how he dealt with such issues in your country.

I really would like to have a Norinco 84 S and about 10K rounds of ammo for it! :D

With modern day 3D printers no government will be able to stop a person from getting a gun. The ammo will be the problem in the future.

I now tell my children not to hunt it is to easy to go buy steak at Wal Mart...if you must hunt be stealthy and practice your skills...and then try to get the shot...with a camera!

Hunting.. now you talking a side interest I have but well in singaporea we never got to practice it. That is game hunting for food. Legally that is. Am a fan of Steven Rinella and Cameron Hanes who show you how to hunt with not just rifles but composite bow. Joe Rogan has in recent years got into hunting and have some really good insight into hunting on his YouTube channel. Now that's old school living off the land. But yes gun control is important but that can of worm is popped and this is one thing that is hard to put back inside the can.

Yes we do indeed see a lot of these videos of brutality.

Let me tell you a little story about one of my friends who is a cop.

Several months ago doing routine patrol in a little town called Glenpool my friend attempted to pull over a car for a moving violation. This car fled and my friend initiated pursuit. The fool drove towards another little country town called Mounds in an attempt to shake off my friend. Well the man didn't know that my friend grew up in Mounds and so there was no way he could shake him. My friend chased the suspect to a house where the suspect jumped out of the car and went inside. My friend radioed his location and waited for back up. As he was sitting there this man came out on the porch with a pistol and opened fire on him. My friend returned fire hitting the suspect and knocking him off the porch. My friend then proceeded around the car where he saw the suspect lying on the ground stretching for the pistol. My friend could have taken the man's life right there instead he opened fire on the ground between the suspect and the gun. The suspect finally rolled over and put his hands up and was then taken into custody. The good cops out number the bad ones by quite a margin.

Damn. Now that is ballsy move by your friend but the right way to do it. And he was confidence of himself.

No doubt given the way news can travel in the internet age but yes i am sure there are more good cops ( people) then there are bad. But the problem is while we are focusing on those bad acts.. it is surprising that still not enough or urgency is used to tackle them and in fact you see the authority comes to those bad cop's rescues as they think this is better then to admit there is a problem with their training or how they select people to be cops.

Speaking as one at age 19, I had to serve my country's national service in the Police force and had been in situation to make arrest and my share of violent offenders. One of the worst being a group me and a few officers surprised and chased for drug offences who when i got the jump on him, we exchanged a few minor blows and one lucky punch dislocated my jaw side way. Recover seconds later as my partner grab him and we both managed to subdue him with few punches to his gut and a neck hold to get him down to the ground to be handcuffed. I could have gotten my revenge and knock him senseless with my police baton or the handcuff once we were in full control. It was in the night away from public eyes and no smart phone then in the 80s.. that was so easy if I wanted to. There were other times but something in the training and maybe it is just me to not take that route just because I can. Yes I know of some police who took matters a little far at the heat of the moment like in a chase but never so bad that it send a criminal to a hospital. I have to carry a revolver on duty as a Policeman but in Singapore you are going to be in a world of hurt if you draw your gun and fire it. police office serving NS or as regular are way unlikely to draw arm to deal even at times with very violent or bigger size persons. they know the paper work they might face or the inquiry to come later.

Here in Singapore if you lose one bullet... you life is going to be turned upside down. Each bullet back in my days if found missing is a 5 years prison time as our senior officers love to tell us. heheh. Lose a gun, I can't even imagine. I have a story like that. I know a fellow squad mate had that happen to him. Corky, young brass young man in the National Service. We got assigned plain-cloth police task force duty at the Changi Airport. Not often we get to do that out of uniform. So this joker got really into playing undercover cops in his stupid head that he went so far as to dress like he was a businessman going to fly to some country on business like that. He went to use the public toilet at the airport to do his "deed". Trying to impress people about that he is some undercover cop, he took out his gun in holster with 5 extra bullets in a pouch and put that on the top of the urinal he was at. A real 'dick move' if there ever was one. After he finish, walk to the sink wash his hand and walked out of the toilet. Forgetting he had his gun and bullets on the urinal. He did not think about it till minutes later walking about the airport and headed back to our hidden observation post to take a break. Then and only then he realized it and bolted to the toilet. I heard his buddies who went with him saw his face turn white when it was NOT there. Big search took place in the toilet by them I was told. Only after a long search did he came back to inform the office in charge. He was grilled left right and center and escorted to the toilet and then re-question over and over again. Till he was in tear and then the senior officer of our group took out the gun and bullets and put it in front of him. The office told him how lucky he was a cleaner honest enough to find it, took it and brought it to police office on patrol. They grill him make his time a living hell just to make sure he and the rest of the team did not forget this stupid act. It is almost rare during my time of 2.5 years and then serving active duty for about 2 weeks out of each year till 40 that i heard of cops covering for cops in Singapore. It is not like the way we always see it on US TV shows. But then we are a lot more milder in terms of cop shooting since at no time in our history has there be a way for you to buy guns and keep them.

Office politic in police is the same like any organization or a bit bias toward the local govt maybe heheh but to cover an unlawful act is almost unheard of at least not as a group or culture act.

BTW.. I love the fact that a recent DEA case of bad arrest that ended with a Chinese guy smoking pot was taken back for interrogation ( not charged ), thrown in jail for 5 days that he almost died as they "forgot" all about him, left handcuffed in a prison lockup with no window, no toilet, food and water for all that time till someone happen to come across him. The DEA officers were not charged but given letter of warning and 2 weeks no pay hahahahah... But for this one at least the guy sue the state and got like $4.1million in damages. So your tax dollar went to paying the guy while the two DEA who did the bad act were more or less left with a light tap n the wrist. https://youtu.be/vz6dNmeqrQQ

Going back into the Flickr archives to bring you this one...yours truly :)

Ar-15 semi auto with updated rails, scope, pistol grip forearm, shorty magazine. Nice gun. Used to be illegal but when Bush came back in they did away with that ban. (I am very anti Bush but that is another topic...pistol grip forestocks once were illegal period...heck now you can have suppressors from the last I heard) America is crazy when it comes to guns...really crazy. In this shot I am shooting at a 1 pound pack of tannerite which is basically ammonium nitrate fertilizer and powdered aluminum mixed together. Requires a high velocity rifle shot..when you hit it it explodes. 5 pounds will make a Jeep Cherokee virtually unidentifiable. The boy is holding a M16.

When I was attached to the Singaporea Riot Police Force, that was the rifle I used. The recoil is not that bad but that was I think the earlier generation. The one you use is a but improvement. The result you get from it is really overkill heheheh... I would prefer a Hoyt Carbon Fiber Bow. Give the target a fair fight heheheh..

That rifle belongs to my dad. He is somewhat of a prepper. I prefer AK's myself when it comes to assault rifles. Even more than that I prefer bull barreled 308 or 06 bolt actions...I want to be far away if I ever have to be shooting at folks! Really I just prefer my camera nowadays...as you say brother Sammy - give people a chance! :)

As far as bows I am into old school stuff like English longbows and the such made from yew wood or composite bows...maybe the Mongol coming out in me or something. :)

Look up this great man... http://www.stickbow.com/stickbow/history/DrPope.html

If you can locate any copies of his old books get them. Also look up Ishi his Californian Indian friend...great stories!

I have a couple of old Pope books. In one he describes Geronimo's set up...to paraphrase him...Geronimo used a bow that had beaver fur on the nocks and arrows fletched with owl feathers...His bow and arrow was silent!

Someday hopefully I can make some pictures of our family bow collection and our arrowhead/scraper/war club head collection...interesting stuff! Remember my mother's house in the Ozarks? It sits precisely on the site of an ancient Indian camp...you can dig anywhere in her yard about 6" to a foot down and you begin to turn up flakes and arrowheads. Further down in the strata even older arrowheads. Many of them very valuable. I don't speak to much of this though for various reasons. I share with you bros though.

We have taken this thread way adrift gentlemen. :)

Well worth it coz its been a great read for me :)

Steering back to topic - Would you say this how "freedom of speech" is still an American thing ? rather then a western thing ? (i.e. Europe) ?

Any Europeans care to share ?

To me, everything's a double-edge sword that should be done in moderation - which itself, is hard to define.

Is there a set values for us to check as regard to 'Freedom of Speech"?

The thing about Freedom of Speech is maybe it is best to keep one's mouth closed sometimes...

Actions speak louder than words.

Talk is cheap.
