Guys I'm just starting to this photography stuff and I was at Lucky Plaza earlier. I happened to pass by at a shop which sells cameras. I wasn't able to get the name but I got her offer which is $650. Is there any shop which sells at a lower price?

Thanks for any inputs.

Sound fishy to me, it wouldn't be so cheap i think. If it's true, then it's too good to be true.

You could ask more questions about the warranty, etc. Some sales tactics will persuade you to buy other stuffs for much more expensive price or even suggest another camera model later.

There are many people who have complained in this forum, try reading the consumer section.

Not sure which shop you went to buy you may want to try Lord's in Luck plaza. A more reputable shop which most forumer here trusted. I wun dare to try any other shop in lucky plaza even their price is lower.

No use asking more qns unless you know what to ask for or get someone who is experience with you. Most properblyThey will say yes yes yes to you and after you pay for it and you feel something is wrong, all the NO NO NO or all sort of hidden cost will come from them.

You will be better off paying slightly more and buy your camera from a reputable store (such as MS Color, John 3:16, TK Foto, Lord's, Cathay Photo or even Orient Photo) than to buy from those "beng" shops at Lucky Plaza. They are there mainly for the tourists.

By the way, why don't you get the D40x instead ($999 for the kit). It is definitely a much better choice.

if you can wait, y not wait till the end of nxt month? there's another IT show @ Expo.. shld hav gd deals by then

Go for reputable stores. Though the quoted price is low, I'm sure they'll find some way to add it all up. IMHO, John 3:16 at Funan Digitalife Mall has the best service around. Prices are also competitive. I am highly confident that they will not even think of cheating you.

Contrary to popular belief, the 'better deals' at IT shows are usually at a cost, and you will realise that if you buy the kit, with all the "freebies" from a reputable dealer, they can usually match/beat the prices at the IT show.

beware!!! too good to be true. U will DEFINITELY ends up paying more. U may not b lucky in that plaza;)

haiyo
650

if a person want to sell you his brand new mercedes for 20K, you take or not

Thanks for the reactions. I'll check again the name of the store when I get the chance to be at Orchard and will inquire about the warranty, etc.

$650 is to good to be true, get the D40x kit at $999. Those shops are usually out to con you. And I don't think Nikon will be at SITEX, as I read somewhere that they will only be at two IT exhibitions annually (don't know whether they were at PC Show, and this was what they say two years back). Go to the reputable ones.

a grey d40 will cost 750 or thereabouts. how can local sets be even cheaper?

I just bought my D40 for $875 with the normal kit lens, 2GB memory card and a UV filter. The price of the D40 should be around that range, not like $650.. Its too good to be true, beware...

$650 for D40, what does it consists of? And does price include taxes? Some shops will quote prices w/o tax and maybe exclude some items that comes with the package. So do be careful and enquiry abit more will do you good.

so true. spend more to get your camera (a long term investment) from a more reputable shop. check the battery they give. according to Parisilks, they may give a third party battery and sell you at a lower price.

I am posting this message from Orient Photo. The Nikon D40x kit with 2GB SD card, Caseman bag, LCD protector for $980. Nikon D40 with the same freebies for $800. Both local warranty sets.

I was at a shop beside Alan Photo at Funan earlier and the guy quoted me $850 for the D40x with 2GB SD card.
Tempting...

Sorry to hijack this thread but for a brand new 40D, how long is the warranty?

A year ago I bought it at $1088 but it has only 1 year warranty valid only in Singapore. From Best Denki haha! I got conned? Hmm... not sure if I wanna know the answer...
