Hi guys,

The big thread got closed! Anyway, here's some images from the Voigtlander's Ultra Wide-Heliar 12mm f/5.6 Aspherical, the widest wide angle LTM/M lens. Even Leica doesn't have any thing close to this focal length yet.

And a few in monochrome...

All shot on the Epson R-D1s. All pictures are unsharpened and are JPEG images straight from the camera except the last one. Full size images, technical details, EXIF datas and more photos here...

Overall, I think this little lens is great fun, be it on a cropped digital sensor or a full frame film camera. Contrast seems a tad high for monochrome images, but still manageable in most cases. Vignetting is not too major an issue if you take the effort to control it. And scale focusing is fun!

Cheers,

heheh.. i see you really enjoy the lens and camera. :)

hmm vignetting looks much better than my 15mm, do you shoot this wide open?

Should try it on a FF camera...

Thanks Eugene! The camera is really quite fun. Of course you should know that! ;) Anyway, good to see you that day but too bad we didn't have time to chat. Another time perhaps.

These are actually shot at f/8.0. So that'll help. Also, the Epson R-D1s has a 1.5X crop sensor. It may not be as pronounced as full frame film cameras. I have some images shot on film for comparison too if you want to see the extreme effects of vignetting.

Cheers,

I think it's a really good lens for street photography!

Here's what vignetting looks like at 1.2m with an aperture of f/5.6 on a full frame camera.

hi benny, thanks for sharing the images taken with the ultra wide 12mm heliar. i am considering either the 15mm heliar or 12mm heliar for my m8. i already have the 21, 35, 50 and 75. does it come with it's own viewfinder? quite surprised that there is so little perspective distortion in your photos... vignetting on a FF rangefinder camera with such wide lens is to be expected though. nice shots. fred
