Images from Sigma 35mm f1.4 dg

see link : Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM review: Digital Photography Review

" Let's start with the optics. It's remarkably sharp, even wide open, outperforming not only its Canon, Nikon and Sony equivalents, but also the far more expensive Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 1,4/35 in lab tests. "

" Every now and then we come across a camera or lens that hits a sweet spot of image quality, usability and price that makes it an easy recommendation. "

" If you're after a top quality fast prime at this focal length it should be right at the top of your short list, and it easily earns our top award. "

Good For:

Photographers looking for a top notch fast 35mm autofocus prime without breaking the bank.

Not so good for:

Anyone who shoots a lot in damp or dusty conditions.

89 / 100 DP Review RATING

It's interesting because they said sharpness wide open outperforms the rest but did not state whether this is based on just MTF graphs.

It's also interesting that Sigma has spent so much time on quality and failed to weather-seal? or perhaps they just didn't mention.

Your comments are quite silly.

Firstly, dpreview did studio scenes and real world tests to arrive at those sharpness conclusions. So this confirms the MTF charts.
Secondly, none of the 35mms in question are weather sealed either (and may cost much more): Canon, Nikon, Zeiss, Samyang, etc.

Well, they aren't frivolous comments.

Firstly, I am pointing out that they did not state what their sharpness comparisons were based on.

Secondly, I know at least the Nikon 35/1.4 AFS is weather-sealed. So, perhaps you are being a bit silly.

Who reviews a lens based on synthetic MTF graphs?

Wouldn't know. They didn't say one way or other.

Mate, of course no review does that.

Er, the Nikon 35mm 1.4 AFS is weather sealed for sure.......I can't speak for the others.

I think Nikon and Canon got a bit lazy over the years.

To be fair, Canon's 35mm is pretty old. Maybe Canon has something up their sleeve!

Outdated designs should be priced accordingly.

i don't think the company will drastically change the price just because the lens manufactured years ago.
anyway, this page is more about posting images rather than discuss about why other lens manufacturer cannot make this kind of quality...etc etc.

Nobody thinks that.

They certainly did... I had a 35 1.4G Nikkor... sold it in 3 months of owning it.... It ain't no 2K lens !!.. the 35 Nikkor should of been on par or better than the 24 1.4G..... IMO 35 - 50 mm lenses are the easiest lenses to create and have been around the longest.... just look at the Leica 35 and 50 offerings ( Sharpest around... I used to own them also !! )
