the facial reaction of a Nikon D200 user who tried the 30D at the Canon booth. His face was one of that "Huh? Wat da hell was dat??!?!" kinda face, LOL! Too bad I didn't have my 350D around

It is not THAT loud really, it is just more accented tap/ slap. Try to read the review of D200 on dpreview and listen to the shutter sound.
It sounds the same "loud" and "pronounced", required probably due to durability and speed for 5fps. D200 is louder than D70
The 1D shutter sounds are quite noticeable too.
I realised that the cameras that do 3 fps have softer shutter sounds eg. 300D, 350D, 10D, 5D, D70, D50.

Anyway I have managed to try the 30D shutter sound, it is really NOT that loud, a good improvement really. Tried 30D and 350D side by side, both volume are about the SAME, it is just that the 30D shutter sound is lower pitch, of shorter duration and more punchier, accentuated (or what some people which may "violent"), hence giving the feel it is much "louder". 350D shutter sound is more higher pitch and more "gentle" and "slower", hence giving a sense that it is "softer".
Just dont worry, if you want either cameras, neither shutter sounds will be deal breakers IMHO

I just bought mine at MS Colour last saturday for 2220 (free 1GB CF and lens book).

I'm not sure that they will be selling it 2.2K any time soon. At first I was offered 2350$ for the body only without any freebies. :dunno:

1 more thing, I am from Malaysia (JB) and I cannot claim GST across the border. In my GST claim-form it is clearly written than we can only claim GST if leaving from Changi airport otherwise S$67 would be nice. Unless...Newmemberz is willing to help me out ;p

well... just a tip for the people here who are intending to get their 30D.
i went down to ms color and they are all booked out. left the kit lens set only.
so just take a trip down to lucky plaza and visit Lords.

$2200 + 1gb CF + Lens Book
