Im New and not sure where to buy my new cam

I intend to buy my own camera, rather than sharing with my whole family.

I intend to buy a Canon S5 IS.

But im not sure where to get the best price for it.

Is it true that the best price is at the IT Fair?


o one more thing, its made in JAPAN right? =D

Please read the very very first sticky in this section. It's a price/outlet list.

As for IT fair, what you'll normally get is a truckload of cheap freebies that nobody would buy and have just been sitting on the shelf for a year. Stock clearance.

Just that they give freebies to sweeten the deal

All cheaper than PC show. As the rest havce said, IT show prices are at RRP and the freebies are normally of no use. (Why you think they give "Free"?)

John 3:16 quoted me $720 after GST, thats 672 before GST.

I went Sim Lim, they quoted me $650+ $660 before gst.


Can't seem to negotiate for a better price Why?

many people here will advise you not to buy from simlim, and there is an obvious reason for that. dun put yourself at risk dude...

maybe you can try TK foto as well, at shaw towers beach road. their pricing is pretty reasonable, i believe it to be slightly lower than John 3:16 from that one time i compared. unless you are regulars at any other shop, i honestly think tk foto is the best place to go.do check it out. price cant go any lower cause that's the cheapest the stores are willing to sell alr...but seriously, just ignore all the shops in simlim, even if they give you like $50 cheaper.

Fuji prosumer, s6500fd is also a gd choice.

Sometimes people may have overlook this brand which produce great camera too.

Pricing wise, I remember someone posted in the s6500fd thread that he got it for $520 @ MS Color.

ultimately it depends which you prefer...there will always be newer and better cams out in the market...if you just wan the best you will never be satisfied...wad u need to do is go down to shops to try out the diffrent cams...know which are in the range tt you are looking for ...and after which see which u like the most...

if u just want to buy the camera knowing that you have the best there is, a few months down the road a new one will be out...then wad are u going to do..?

i heard from my friend that a new model is coming out.. not sure if its a replacement of S5IS, but i heard its similar. you might want to wait another week...
