The important thing about going into photography as well as many other commitments is 1) PASSION and 2) more PASSION

yeah, the money maybe good or bad at times but hey, it's the experience you are picking up :)

Frankly, I don't work for the $, it's the experience I'm more interested in too. When I'm asked to shoot for weddings, events etc, I don't ask to be paid, cos I don't see myself as a pro. Just secretly hoping the photos will turn out well enough to be used for my portfolio. :)

wha.. many many free lance photographers.. eh actually i notice liek.. er.. 4 kinds of people in CS

1. The working photographer who has a good grasp of knowledge on photography, etc

2. The playful photographer who don't really care about technical stuffs and just shoot because it's fun

3. The arty farty photographer who shoots on a regular basis to achieve that "level"

4. The technical photographer who shoots quite little, and comes to CS to explain things to people.. haha

of course, there are other types too.. but i think these 4 are the more prominent ones

Eh, I'm in the 5th category. The pian chiak photographer who knows nuts abt photography!

Guess you guys must have heard of/experienced exploitation of passionate photographers :bsmilie:

Lotsa potential clients shopping for a real bargain out there

The night skyline of CBD. Wanted to shoot CBD after sunset, but my friend was late...and by the time she arrived, the sky orr orr liao! :(

to really know the trade, talk to more pros and people from this line. you learn a lot more than what you read in books. Photography is a time-based experience. You can't really rush it coz it has to do with personal perspectives. Read GRAIN's latest issue on Adi Soon's editorial. You will be able to understand about growth in photography..

hahhaah.. sorry guys.. just a little humor to brighten up the night :D

oh tell me about it.

that's why, sometimes u HAVE to charge. i'm also facing a prob where i've charged pretty low say a year ago, and now my rates have gone up (becos i'm more experienced, better, using better equipment, spending more time post-processing, inflation??) but new enquiries know of my low rate and want the same rate. i try to manage their expectations as well as i can, but it's hard sometimes.

at the moment being fresh, i wanna keep my reputation clean, so i'm still pretty flexible, when it comes to pricing. imagine wat a statement like "the fella shoots well, but he charge too high liow, he used to charge much cheaper" would sound as a word of mouth ad? :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

ah yes.. ehehe i'm there to renew my visa too.. for another 5 years.

wha.. anyone wants a PA? :p

that's why before you start charging.. make sure you know the market pricing and you can command that price tag :)
