I'll not use any Non L Lenses...

I believe every photographers has every rights to choose a prefer tool to create the images he wants.
and just like an any artists, photographers also has his own creative freedom to creative any photo he see deem fit, unless his being hired.

this discussion is not about Canon gears anymore, but the mentality of some people (photographers), thread moved to Kopitiam for more leeway for discussion.

I'm sorry if the title is a bit provocative, but this is my story;
Yesterday I accompany my wife to meet her best friend who stay in overseas. We have dinner, me and my wife, her best friend (a female) and her brother. After eat finish, my wife ask me to use my camera to take pics of she and her best-friend (and 'her' brother). I'm using my 40D, a 50mm f1.4, and flash. After 2-3 takes, suddenly this brother says, "Actually I'll not using anything than L lenses. My iPhone can takes picture better than your lens." I'm a bit surprised, but decided to challenge him "Really? Than maybe we do with your iPhone?" (I'm not 'yet' an iPhone user). To my more surprise, he indeed replace me to take pictures using his iPhone. And he done this without any change in his face, as this is normal thing, or he doing the right thing. We take several pics, and ask the waiter to takes for us.
And then after we sit down, he asks me mine or my wife email adress to send the picture. I'm still in confuse, and asks what camera he using. He said he is long time using Canon, and only use the L lens to takes picture. "Moment is very important, and cannot repeating. Be prepared by only using the best lens, than you ruin the moment itself by using just standard lens." he lectured me. At the end, before we say good bye, he again promised to email us the pics on his iPhone, and tell me "Sorry I left my camera at home, if I know we will need it tonight, I'll bring it. But I think iPhone also in good use tonight"
Man, I'm still in surprise. And so surprised until I forgot he just need to transfer the pics via bluetooth to my Nokia phone

That is why, I will never take these pictures. No matter who ask.

If I were you, I will just not send the pictures, even if your wife asked. Photographers should not be expected to take **** all the time.

Btw, if I were you, the situation will definitely not be as amicable. And if whoever I was with at the time take any stand that is not 100% on my side, that will be the last time. Guys, we need to act with some dignity and behave with some dignity. Not that everyone will have to go thermonuclear as I would have chose to, but we, photographers, must stand up for our reputation and how other will perceive us.

Case in point, being humble, the perception you project to others in regards to your photography, is not that you are a nice guy and a good photographer, but rather, you are really not that good.

C'est la vie.

Haha but seriously, these lenses comes in multitude of varieties and range (telephoto, wide angle, prime, etc), not doubt one can (NOT) segregate per se, unless one's merely a showoff.

Of course there are times when using P&S and you feel its restrictions, and the need to achieve a certain depth or aperture, whatever, that's where perhaps L lenses would come in handy, provided he/she can utilise it properly. Of course, if one could have thought of this would prob know how to use it properly lah...

I've actually met lots of people like this. almost the exact same story every time... "I only shoot with L lenses, pros only shoot with L lenses, your pictures will never be as good as they can be unless you shoot with L lenses, all Canon L lenses use special glass that make all pictures better", etc etc etc....
