If you start all over again, which lens combo would you pick?

Since you are going to get from US.

Mabbe you can consider 1Dm2N + 17-40L + 24-105 L IS. You gotta stretch you budget a little but it's sure cheaper getting there.

You can add 100-400 L IS later.

For primes, 50 f1.4 or 1.2 and 85 f1.2L for portraits and 100 2.8 for macro.

Thanks for suggesting the 85 f1.2L... after further research, I'm convinced that my current skill is just not good enough for that lens .. I don't shoot fast object..so I will start with a 85mm f/1.8 instead

If you are getting a 1.6x you might want to consider 50 1.4 instead, unless you are going for quarter portraits or head shots.

If money were no object, a realistic setup I'd want is:

-1DMKII
-24-105mm f/4
-100-400mm f/4.5-5.6
-any decent 1.4X TC
-bunch of ND grads, circular polarizers...remote release
-550ex

Tripod-wise, I'd stick with my current.
