Idea for my wedding dinner

guys, dunno if this is possible or not...

my wedding dinner is on the 1st of June. I am exploring the possiblility of having a digital video man following me during the usual round about the tables to take in the "action"

catch is, is it possible to actually broadcast it onto a large projection screen in the banquet ballroom? most likely must be wireless as i don't think the video man is able to handle a wired videocam and navigate round the tables.

i have also heard of ppl actually smsing well wishes which are then displayed on the projecto screen. anyone with contacts or are in this business can also email/pm me. i am thinking of integrating the 2 ideas.

if anyone has any proposal, kindly email/pm me, including method and price. I am NOT looking for pro-quality stuff, since i most likely can't afford it (else i would have really gone for the pros).

maybe can try... Notebook with Bluetooth + Sony DV with Network Connectivity (Bluetooth).

Good idea but bluetooth has a range of only 5-10m. You'd need a wireless LAN receiver hooked up to another computer connected to the screen.

Sim Lim has those shops selling wireless surveillance cameras, they should have units that attach to cameras. Shouldn't be too expensive, but don't be surprised if the pic quality is crappy.

last time i install a few of these wireless surveillance camera in office....the quality is very bad compare to webcam....also these camera need to be powered....so u need an AC source for it....still not completely wireless, their range is short too....and lots of distortion becos it is using RF, somemore the camera will be moving ard....surly got lots of distortion

but for wireless lan, such thing will not happen unless the signal strength drop so low until it disconnect...in that case, add a few access point around the restaurant lor....

get a good quality webcam....and launch netmeeting on both notebook and PC. the webcam will be powered by notebook, and you can probably close the notebook and place it inside a sling bag, while the "videographer" just carry the webcam and aim (remember the singtel wireless ads on TV??)

using the laptop with webcam and wireless lan seems like a real possibility. but the hardware cost is rather high? wireless lan around $500, good quality webcam around few hundred also? i gotta think abt this...

Consider the possibility of technical glitches fouling up the mood of your wedding. The more high tech you go, the greater possibility of a technical screwup. Trust me on this. Even a slideshow set to music can go terribly wrong. Very stressful.

Would suggest keeping things simple. People won't long remember the gee-whiz-bang of a high tech presentation, but they will long remember the cockups.

For the record, my own wedding went very smoothly. But I was in charge of the slideshow for my brother-in-law's wedding, and... let's just say there were a few moments of awkward silence and darkness...

the video thing really is a "good-to-have" but as what streetshooter mentioned, the more technical and technological you get, the more chances for glitches.

OT here,
what one of my friend did was simple and effective. instead of dumping the photo album onto one table and then people crowding around to catch a glimpse, he loaded the photos as a slide presentation onto his laptop and projected using the LCD projector, so everyone could just look. I thought that was a simple, and effective idea.

hmm, how did he managed to scanned the photos in the album (assuming it is the wedding album)? isn't it binded together?

Some photographers shoot with DSLR, and will pass you in VCD/DVD format, then you can play it and project onto the screen/wall whichever.

The bound album is the end presentation result. But before it takes place, the couple will have to choose from among several rolls, and then picking the ones they like for the album.

Seem to be the norn nowadays. Anyway, if I go to a wedding, and every turn I made was photos of the loving couple and mushy love songs, I'll probably vomit. Sound more like a toture to me. And if the couple is not photogenic or physically challenged (if you know what I mean), then double worst, vomit blood plus nightmare!

In the UK, I attended quite a number of my friends' weddings. They don't really have sit-down wedding dinners but some sort of garden luncheon events. Some of their creative ideas were:-

(a) Have laptops situated at 3-5 corners of the garden. Each laptop is connected to a server which a easily self-written program put the messages from the laptops onto the screen through a projector. This server is also connected to the internet where their friends in the other countries can also send in their well wishes. They also have a webcam in the room. Thus the server can broadcast the event onto the internet and the screen.

(b) Wedding photos are put displayed out in an ablum but rather individual photos are displayed out on the entrance walls leading to the hall. Guests can look at the photos easily.

U can always pass the negatives to minilabs to scan them into jpeg format. If you have taken your wedding photos, you may also request the bridal shop to give you the photos in a CD.

But beware, because if you show too much of your photos during the wedding, might just backfire. Too much photos and the guests might feel discomfort.

Ideally, these photos should only be shown during specific times such as before entry, couple's Q&A time, toasting etc.

This is important...

Unless you have a bunch of IT savy friends to help.

DON'T attempt to do it all by yourself. you have more important things to think than this high-tech stuff.

Some ideas:-

1) Get a pair of good MCs to host for you.
2) Music selection also very important.

3) shooting Video? important: get it edited down to less than 1/2 hour before showing it to relative/friends.
