Places to visit?

For makan, the usual lah... Penang Road, Gurney Drive, New Lane, Tanjung Tokong.

For shopping... not many. Gurney Plaza, erm the rest too paiseh to recommend.

Taking pictures? Lotsa them. Batu Ferringhi beach, Teluk Bahang beach, Teluk Bahang Fishermen Village, Butterfly Farm, Spice Garden, Kek Lok Si, Gurney Drive, Penang Bridge, Penang Hill, etc.

Thanks Andrew! Btw, Is the penang hill a necessary place to visit? Cos we are spending just 2-3 days there, so have to filter out some places...

a must place to visit. the underground tunnel for ww2. must pay RM10 or so to go and there will be a ranger guide bring you along. short journey in and out but definitely worth it! oh you need to crawl in the tunnel...
forgot the actual place in name, it is somwhere near the malay kampung or the fishing village.

- Char Kway Teow at Lorong Kulit.

- Bah Kut Teh at Gurney Drive in the early morning (they only serve from 6am-9am i think).

- During the night time , you guys can eat at Gurney Drive's Golden Phoenix. It's a hawker center. Specialties are "ikan pangang", bird's nest soup.

- Komtar's 59 Floor Chinese Restaurant

- Bukit Tambun Seafood (it's actually at Sungai Petani)

For shopping , Prangin Mall, Island Plaza, Midlands Shopping Mall (they call it One Stop), Sunshine Square, Bukit Jambul Complex and Komtar (nearly closing down when i went back on December).

Before coming back, try some Sheng Hiang special tau sar phiah. They have special flavours such as nutmeg (actual nutmeg used), hair-bee-hiam (spicy shrimp), various fruits and coffee. They have a shop opposite Sunway Hotel (along New Lane) and another opposite Rasa Sayang Hotel.
