I want to shoot insects...

I have a CANON EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. Can I use it when taking close-up shots of flowers, insects, etc? Recommended or is it a must to use macro lens. Zoom lens also can use wat? :bwhat:

Today I try using 50mm too + a closeup len (from megaweb)
ok lor but need to get the slide back then can tell how!
