I Want Higher Taxes, Really!

How would you know the 2nd ending point would not be better than the 1st ending point?

Nation building have NEVER been walking a straight line...

It is about how to apply solutions as and when a situations demand it...

Think casino... Who vehemently oppose it when he was prime minister and turned around recently advocating 2 Casinos for Singapore to be able to compete?
And how would you know if the ending point is a black hole?

And its not really abt coming out with solutions as scenarios see fit since this method of 'taking a step as it comes' is receipe for disaster.

Or put simply "Damage control"

There's no ending point.

There's only direction and current situation.

I don't like the current situation in Singapore.

I also don't like the current direction from the P A P leadership.

So I want a change of direction and a change of leadership.

We don't know for sure that the direction we choose is right.

But to say that, only the P A P knows the right direction, that no one else can navigate, and that if we choose another party to govern, they will lead us to ruin for sure-- that's totally unsubstantiated.

I sure hope we would not go down USA road with politicians biting one another in the media, hardly knowing who is truthful and who is not... Scandals throwing at one another...

In Singapore we have ONLY talking nonsense at a rally, suing and bankrutcy from ALL parties... Using Singapore's money to buy votes for a party the legitimate way etc...

Well, we have a long way before reaching "dirty" USA level... ;)

LOL... And how would you know it would be a black hole??

Our current government are also applying solutions as the situations arrive isn't it?

And it would be interesting to note that future plans and projections are not from our ministers that are voted in... It is our civil service people in various ministry and they duly advice our ministers... blah... blah.. so on and so forth...

So would there be much change if another party comes in? It is still the same people working in the background laying the groundwork for the politicians...

I was really really scared I would have no lift upgrading in my block and my district would turn into a slum...

Disclaimer:
Fwd to me by a friend. I cannot verify figures are correct.

For those residing in Singapore...(this was sent to me by an ex-auditor)

Example 1
In 2006, if after rebates etc and your net taxable income is $60,000, the
income tax you need to pay is $2,700 (8.75%). If you spend $800 a month on
needed goods and services, the GST paid for 5% will be $480 Total=$3,180 in
Tax paid.

In 2007, if after rebates etc and your net taxable income is $60,000, the
income tax you need to pay is $2,600 (8.50%). If you spend $800 a month on
needed goods and services, the GST paid for 7% will be $672 Total=$3,272 in
Tax paid.

From $3,180 to $3,272, the effective increase is 2.89%.

Example 2
In 2006, if after rebates etc and your net taxable income is $400,000, the
income tax you need to pay is $61,650 (21%). If you spend $4,000 a month on
needed goods and services, the GST paid for 5% will be $2,400 Total=$64,050
in Tax paid.

In 2007, if after rebates etc and your net taxable income is $400,000, the
income tax you need to pay is $58,700 (20%). If you spend $4,000 a month on
needed goods and services, the GST paid for 7% will be $3,360 Total=$62,060
in Tax paid.

From $64,050 to $62,060, the effective decrease is -3.11%.

Example 3
In 2006, if after rebates etc and your net taxable income is $25,000, the
income tax you need to pay is $187.50 (3.75%). If you spend $800 a month on
needed goods and services, the GST paid for 5% will be $480 Total=$667.50
in Tax paid.

In 2007, if after rebates etc and your net taxable income is $25,000, the
income tax you need to pay is $175 (3.5%). If you spend $800 a month on
needed goods and services, the GST paid for 7% will be $672 Total=$847 in
Tax paid.

From $667.50 to $847, the effective increase is 26.89%.

The question is not where the money comes from, is what the additional taxes are used for.

There is very much speculation that not 100% of the additional revenue generated by the 2% increase will go to social spending. In fact, clarion calls for audits and declaration of revenues earned from the 2% increase and how it was used at the end of 2007 have largely gone ignored/swept away. This only serves to reinforce cynicism that only a small part of the 2% increase revenue is being used for the purpose which it is formed in the first place.

No one likes higher tax. Period. But like many have realized, the money must come from somewhere.

I thought 5% on $800 = $800 x 0.05 = $40?? The GST figures seems a bit odd.;p
