I wanna buy a tripod

Those Fancier tripods look pretty good for the price. Anyone used these tripods before?

Having come across few members who bought it before, and ended up getting a Sirui. Yes, it seems very economical, but remember, your camera+lens => S$1,500 (at the least)

Do you trust a < $60/$70/$80 tripod to do the job of holding it up on a windy day?

Unless you don't want to wave goodbye to the hard earned money you put into for buying the camera, I'd suggest you INVEST in something that is stable and will be with you in the long run.

My personal experience, I bought a Fancier/Weifeng tripod. Yes, it's light, but heck, when it comes to supporting my gear, the legs were too wobbly. Ended up investing in a < $300 Manfrotto tripod. Go to the various stores mentioned above to look at the tripods. One other store, K-13 at Peninsula Plaza, but do bear in mind the (so-called) formula I gave you above when looking at tripods.

Also, one other formula, Max Load the tripod can hold should at least be 3 X (heaviest gear [camera + lens + grip + flash] you can think of). Best, bring them all to the store to test for tripod legs' steadiness. When you extend it fully, and hit it, and it vibrates like the strings of a guitar, move on to the next one.

HTH.

Cheers!

The Fancier is alright if you can only afford a Fancier. I started off using cheapo tripods when I was a student, they got me the images I wanted and I just didn't have the money to get anything better then, having to fund everything by myself. Given the choice of waiting 2-3 months more to get something better like a Sirui, or just having a simple, rickety tripod to shoot and accept the relative reduced stability, the choice was really very clear. Now of course, it's a different story.

If you can afford more, then anything beyond a Sirui/Manfrotto is frankly just increasingly and exponentially expensive. Of course there are certain things you have to pay money for depending on your use, but for 95% of users out there, there is no need for something like a Gitzo, etc.

Just bought one aft reading this forum! So, I signed up today! Hee. I bought R1004 + g20 @$149 from tk foto. Poor me buy cheapest one x.x

Ah, I myself use a R1005, the R1004 max height is not good enough for my uses. All are nice tripods though, well-made.

Didn't get to see 1005. Is it taller? 1004 is ard 150+ if I'm nt wrong. W the g20 head it's close to 165. I'm 170. Hee.

Oops, I think it was the R2004 I was talking about. Paiseh, the last digit is the number of sections so I think I got mixed up.

Can see the spec comparison here: http://www.tkfoto.com.sg/index.php/sirui/tripods/134-sirui-r-series-tripod

Minimum height of R2004 is 1 cm higher, max height is 5 cm taller. The legs are also significantly thicker, so the weight is 0.5 kg more.. Despite the apparent slight difference in height.

With modern implementations of live view, being higher than eye level is fine. Though not really required a lot of the time.

The more relevant point is that the max height is higher, the tripod legs are longer. This allows for my options when you have to face the daunting task of positioning a tripod to position your camera such that a UWA perspective will not include random railings (be it HDB vantage points, Helix Bridge area, these are the few that I can think of).. :)

Thanks everyone for your advice.
My gear is pretty light (<1.5kg) w/o any long, heavy lenses. Doubt I'll expand my kit either.
After reading the previous posts & doing further research, I think I will go with the Sirui (light & reasonably priced).
Will probably head to TK foto to check on the T1004x/T1204x and the G20/K10x.
Any comments on that?

Personally, after owning the T1004X + G10 ball head (same design as G20), I would prefer to get the K10x ballhead....but well, that's me. Get whatever that works for you :)
