I feel bad for you. I'm from Brunei and I've come to Singapore many times and have bought used cameras from sellers here a couple of times with no problems. I also bought music stuff second hand from other forums and was duped once in 10 deals which i put down to a learning experience. Overall I love buying used gear from Singapore cos its always in such pristine condition! And better priced than ebay most of the time. I will continue to do my used gear shopping in Singapore for sure. Sorry to hear about your case. Understandable you should get upset but don't let it stop you from dealing again here. And thanks for sharing with other members here for our awarness.

Money spent on petrol and tolls can be recovered, but not time lost.
I sympathize with the trouble you taken to fulfill an obligation. If I were in your shoes, I blew my head off. I had good and bad experience selling & buying online. Here are 2 examples:

1) Paid this guy who advertised in Pentax Forum selling his lens. He even informed going to the post office to ship the lens to me. Lens never arrived and he disappeared. Value lost: S$ 180.00Took it as loosing my money in 4D or finance this jerk’s welfare.

2) Advertised my lens in Club Snap. Buyer from Penang interested and requested him to pay in advance to my friend’s account in Malaysia which he did. Then I happen going to KL for business, I brought lens along and shipped to him from KL by local post. He one’s satisfied buyer.

*scammer alert!*

Got my aeroplane flew today by this exact idiot. Google the number 93964049 and came across this post. I repeat beware of 93964049!

Posted a sale of my 18-55mm on Wednesday in BnS, got a message from this person the following day. He ( maybe she ) initially wanting to lowball the price even though I stated clearly price is firm but after that he agreed to the price and we confirm our arrangement to meet at 4pm at Serangoon this afternoon.

330pm I message the person to confirm whether he is coming. Never reply. 345 called but got the "user not available message". Called at 4pm again but apparently he switch off his phone and I cant call through at all!!! Thought of giving him the benefit of the doubt maybe his phone no batt. But its 6 hours since 4! any decent being will have replied or inform me if its a genuine case of unforeseen circumstances.

Initially didn't want to post in CS but upon realizing he is a chain scammer decided to raise awareness by posting. Maybe I'm not as bad as Mintze who had to travel across the causeway but I did have to squeeze and rearrange my schedule for the meet up.

To 93964049 ( if you are reading) > if you are not serious about buying don't any how arrange meet up. Unlike you who is free to go around flying aeroplane, decent people like us got more serious stuff to attend to. Even if you manage to get a cheaper deal, at least have the decency to inform me. Switching off you phone is as low as you can get!

Hi guys,

I, too also have experience for "kite flyer'. My product is a handphone and kanna "fly kite" 2 times. I think the whole event is like a setup. 1st buyer offer $280 for my new handphone, confirmed ok then suddenly no new. 2nd buyer came along and offer $250 and confirm ok. Arranged time & place to meet and confirm 2 days advance. Today is the day and no show. Called many times and no reply. a few hours later, a new buyer SMSed and asked whether phone available and asking for $200.

I think this is some kind of pressure tactics. Like TS, asked to come all the way and asked for 50% discount. Is like trying to force TS to sell at 50% discount since he already crossed the causeway.

So, let's be wary of such tactics.

Just sharing my thoughts and experiences.

Cheers

Must check nightwolf75 sticky "Fraud cases in clubsnap" at the top of Consumers Corner. This guy's number is listed. Nightwolf75 himself got bitten by him.

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685672

Can use the tel number to do a search on this site. Good to check on credentials of buyers too before dealing. Somewhere in the clubsnap archives you will find such thread records.

Try this guy number in search, 3 records will be found.

Maybe this fella's hobby is flying people's aeroplane -- he needs to get a life! People like him should be named and shamed in public.

this guy is flying aeroplane all over the place, just google the handphone number and you will see many complaints in other forums too!

buying and selling over a forum like this offers advantages like good price (compared to 2nd hand shops) and flexibility.

Encountering buyers or sellers like that is in inevitable risk of engaging in such a form of trade. There is simply nothing we can do about it. the good thing is that these are exceptions rather than the norm. my experiences have generally been good save for a few cases. it is a fact that ppl like that always exists and its one of the tradeoffs we accept.

the whole nature of this exchange method is based on good faith. and unlike say ebay there is no need for registration and ppl cannot rate sellers or buyers.
