CS is never the place to tell people that you don't know the basic. Main and ultimate answerS you will get - RTFM, Google and worst- sell off your gear. Get some friends together to the library for a friendlier approach for your fav hobby.

Sadly, this is quite true for the culture here.

this got me laughing damn hard.

but its true. its not exactly newbie friendly in a way. but then, to think about it, whatever they need to know has already been stickied or stickied or stickied in the Newbies Sub-forum. Its just a matter of clicking to that sub-forum and READING. and in the first place, manuals already has the basics.

Guide to DLSR photography for Newbies + Product/Price/Outlet List

There are many leechers in this forum. only a rare few with the CORRECT technical knowledge who bothers to answer. Can you imagine their frustrations, answering the same questions again and again? I dun even wanna start on how retarded those questions can get, even when the fact that they are newbies are factored in...

Seems like recently people who are getting into the hobby has the impression that M mode is the only mode one should be using on a dslr and is some kind of magical potion to great images. Is there some kind of rumours spreading around?

Sometimes I guess it's better to rent a camera for whatever a purpose than to be stucked with something you don't know. The longer the UFO hangs around you, the higher the chances other people knows you don't know.

Big cameras can never make a person pro, neither does it add or expand the contact list of the opposite genders- those who are long enough in here knows that already.

Wow, so surprise that u have so much equip in ur early stage.. Who actually poison u to buy those equip?;)

Hey, Cefazolin,
Don't be disheartened with some of the comments from members here. Most of them are really kind but sadly some are just young. You have spend a great deal on those lovely equipement , so surely you have done some reading and intend to continue. Photography is a lovely hobby to pursue even if you didnt start according to some protocol some of them imaged or perceived here.

I am sure many of us here would like to hear of your progress. We are all learning, no one knows all... take your time and enjoy what we can see in photograghy when our eyes cannot see in the natural world.

good luck

Hi Bros here. really need ur advice.. I was very excited when i bought a D90 few days ago. been reading thru the userguide these few nights.. so today i think might as well go botanic garden to test snapping with M mode..

when i reach the water fall, I try snapping a few shot with different setting.. to my horror, it came out totally white!! my setting was M mode, shutter speed 1sec, ISO at low 1.0 to 3200, aperture at F5. using Nikkor 50mm f1.8 prime lens. then i change the shutter speed faster at 1/1000-2000, the photo was not clear at all..

bros here.. can i ask some qns, in broadday light, usually wat is your setting.. I dun wanna to lose this hobby bcos of this mistake and I really wan to learn PASM mode.

Below are the things i invest in this hobby. Hope you bros here able to enlighten mi with your skills and experience in photography.

1. Nikon D90 with 15-105mm Kit lens
2. Nikkor 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 AF-S ED VR
3. Nikkor 50mm f1.8 Prime lens
4. Raynox CM2000 set. (come with 150 and 250 marco lens)

Bros. i really really interested in shooting. but really no idea how to shoot even in broadday!!!
Bros, if u wanna mi to post my photo here for ur advice, i'll do it. but.. hope u all bare with my lousy shooting..

maybe if u want.... for nikon it is called the "P" mode... program mode la.. see how the camera reacts with metering on aperature and shutter... after u understand it u can switch to M for effects and this is where those cool looking waterline or what ever u called it come in place for u to learn..

buy usually la i mean USUALLY... outdoor shooting using different shutter speeds and aperatures.

commonly i use low aperature setting (because i like focusing on a subject) my shutter speed used at outdoor DAYTIME is around 1/100-1/320 or sometimes even faster with ISO set to lowest.

hope this helps. ;)

I'm also a newbie in photography so my thots are worth less than 2 cents.

But I feel that the P mode is good enough for most occasions. Putting it in M mode requires a lot of thinking and may cause us to miss the 'magic' moments.

But of course, knowing how it works helps heaps when you do Macro etc, but maybe it's not the best FIRST thing to learn in photography.
