A newbie is unlikely to have many legacy lenses so this is not an issue. Different story for you. You are spoilt for choice with the available AFS lenses.

Not referring to legacy lenses, lenses such as the 85mm f1.8 and the whole range of tokina lenses need BIM for AF.

Was just wondering why, if Tokina has made a version of the 11-16 for Canon's EF mount (thereby requiring BIM), the F-mount version persists without the BIM
