It seems that everyone knows who he is. Lolz

Anyway mumbling could be talking to himself. I talk to myself alot when i am thinking, so much so till my teacher keep scolding me as a student as i mumble the thinking process and answer out during an exam or test.

Even if he is grumpy, most old man in photography has certain degree of grumpyness for an unknown reason. But nothing too big from my POV.

I find that producing the receipt is part of the SOP, it is only right to bring it unless you have lost it and is unable to find it. Imagine if he cannot remember your looks very well, then someone who looks like you drop by and ask to collect it, he sign on the receipt and took your camera? I find special treatment being unfair to the rest of the customer who obeys the SOP.

This mr. XXX may be superb in fixing my rolleiflex and other cameras, but i hope when i grow old, i dun become grouchy and bitter...

raytoei

I can Imagine how many people are chasing him for their cameras this CNY period. Aiya... Cut him some slack.

3 weeks is nothing, we have all waited for ours much longer but at least you know he always gives his 101%.

If you cannot wait and do not wish to be tied by his biz rules then i suggest maybe go to another repair-man like you mention. Anyway, gong xi fa cai.. lets move on. different strokes different folks ^_^

Eh?

I only kena chased by him to collect back my camera before... So that's the other way round from your situation!

But then again... I think you're really just suay to have called him during CNY, when he probably could have been busy, took leave, or went on holiday, and as such have a huge backlog to clear. When you're a one-man job doing all the work, it might be quite tiring and stressful.

And yes, my experiences were generally all positive... he actually fixed quite a number of things for me free-of-charge... especially if it's a simple job (to him) can be done in 5 minutes (and yes, other reputable shops, even some that are listed here, all quoted me $$$$$ for the same "repair").

he too chase me to collect my camera back during chinese new year, :bsmilie:
he say he got no space to put already, when i couldnt make it down, he even offer to meet me outside to pass me back.
I guess he really has too much in his hand currently.

but i guess many of us already prepare to wait when we send our camera to him. and in most cases, the wait is worth it.

Donno what your intention of starting this thread using the 'bullied' word - which I feel is way too strong a word. At the very most - it is just a less than desired customer service. Then again he is specialized tech not a grinning salesman.

To say he bullied you is too far fetched - he done you no harm and caused you no loss, other than letting you know that the customer is not always right, which maybe had poked your ego a bit.

Judging from the high number of regular members defending him on this thread even as his name was not even mentioned yet, we know his had done some good for the community here.

Speaking of that, got a vintage seagull to bring him soon, better not yet since obviously his busy and in bad mood! :)

I also have camera to repair. Seems this guy's workmanship is good. Can someone PM his name and contact to me pls.... And also his location. Tks.

I know he has a good reputation,

Huh!?? Where are all the guys with their horror stories to tell?

Everytime I look at my first Canon 50mm f/2.2 LTM with 2 missing element after the "servicing".......................

thanks for all the replies.

i think the general consensus is that you invest time with the camera repair man and they show kindness to you.

glad to hear that the experiences are mostly positive.

i doubt after this experience i will go back, especially the whole thing about the receipt where it was very clearly trying to kekan me for taking the camera back.

caveat emptor.

raytoei

ps. "!&#!#!)(&#!(&#!" wasn't vulgar. it was scolding to the point of asking me to get the camera back. After 3 weeks, i called him to ask him and he scolded me. What other service have you encountered such an interesting response ?

pps. "bullied" is when you try to take back your camera and he gives you a really really hard time. I have not encountered any other camera repairman that bullies like that.

Lol de supporters r all above!!

Frankly speaking, i really don think felix is trying to tarnish someone's reputation. The experience given to him was bad..i mean top notched serviceman..so???

Do be mindful that its a transaction..not like a free service..sounded like we r all at his mercy..

Felix, just find another Repair man if its not the kind of service u paid for..after all its ur money n ur call..

thanks for clarifying your initial post...

for those in the know, you know who and what raytoei is talking about. for those who don't, this thread can easily be misinterpreted with a lot of anxiety on which repairman to bring their gear to. i'm not questioning intentions or truths here, but just to say that there are multiple-sides to any given incident... the truth is often somewhere in the middle. alternatively, you can see it that all sides can actually be "correct", in their own view. but it could be a matter of different expectations, interpretations, etc. and some of this can already be seen in some of the replies provided by others...

best place to discuss or provide feedback on photography-related service providers or retailers can be done at consumer corner... but that been said, the para above still applies, unless you have "solid evidence", on cheating, misinformation, slide of hand, dishonest behavior, etc.*

In the meantime, here is a list of places RFers on CS often consider for purchase / CLA / repair of their RF cameras, lenses and accessories...

* of course, consumer corner is just for "complaining"... by all means, you can also given "complements" to stores that deserve your endorsement.
