by haywire, did you mean the menu keeps on jumping around?
That happened to me. I sent my V10 in for repair and now its working fine. They replaced the keypad....

Saw one display set on sale at Best Taka.. Condition not very good.. 9/10.. still selling at quite high price.. $449.. wanted to get it but condition puts me off.. Think that is the only place i saw that is selling..

is the condition of the display set cam really so bad ?
think i have to drop by and have a look before i can make a decision.

Just to update this thread, I bought an F30 early last year for my mother-in-law but didn't get one myself (my S40 was still working fine then), when my S40 finally died, the F30/f31 was a bit to find already (late last year), and the price on eBay increased by 20% vs the time I bought it Feb07...

Now that I've bought a Lumix TZ3, I was pretty happy about it... Until....

Yesterday when my MIL came to SG for a visit and I used the F30 again... Indoors, even with good lighting, the Lumix will NEED flash to get a good, sharp exposure... With the F30, the hit rate for indoor shots were at least 70% higher... Dang it... Now I'm thinking if I should trade her my TZ3 hehehe.

Amazon sells the F30/F31 at over $450-500 nowadays... I got it for 200+ a year and a half ago...

Think you guys really over-rated the F31.

I had one and sold it off after a few months. Currently still have my Fuji F20 which is as good as the F31 in noise control.

Compared it with my GF's Canon compact, the Fuji Fxx series give away a lot a lot of details, The reason why the picture still look smooth at high ISO is becos of aggressive noise reduction in-camera.

You can do better noise reduction with SW like Noise Ninja etc.

Isn't that the point? To get a camera where you won't have to use additional software? If not, you might as well get the most basic camera and use all the software you can to make the picture look good.

And I disagree, my Fuji F30 doesn't give away a lot of detail. It's definitely still the best camera for low-light situations.

i agree its really good for lowlight. Nowadays i use it for infrared photography. The result is better than my dslr. I can shoot infrared handheld at iso800 without hardware modification. So those who think this camera is overrated, you can use it for infrared photography.

Good Choice TL.
Becareful not to edit or delete photos on your XD card from the computer else your XD will be corrupted and might have to be formated.

Oh, is this true? I never knew that! Can anyone verify?
I'm not sure if I have deleted photos from my xD card but it's quite possible cos I sometimes do that. My card has gone cuckoo a little and now I'm wondering if it could be because of this.

Will reformatting solve the problem? I don't have any photos in it so it is not a problem to reformat. Only thing is, will reformatting change the numbering of the files? Cos I don't want it to name my files the same name as the other files I have... this will be a problem for me.

I actually started a thread regarding my card problem here

Pls put 2 cents there or here if you like.
Thank you.

Should avoid directly delete/edit photos in card readers. And this applies to all types of camera memory cards.
Reformatting should not change the numbering sequence if the [Frame Number] is not set to [renew].
Anyway, in my opinion, when storing photos in computer, should group them in different directories according to events, date, subjects etc.
FYI, if you never [renew] your [Frame Number] before, there will be a time where the "numbering" reach a final limit (of maybe 9999?). Then you will be "forced" to renew the number, and thus, will have duplicates filenames if you still gather all photos inside the same directory.

Over the years, I must have owned at least 20 cameras - point and shoots and all manner of dslrs - Olympus, Fuji, Canon and now Nikon. Of all the cameras I owned, only 3 have earned my respect - the Olympus 5060, my current Nikon D300 and my F30. And of all the cameras I mentioned, the one I have kept the longest is the F30. And the F30 is still with me because it is as sharp as any P & S, keeps good details, and performs wonderfully in less-than-ideal light.
