Who should help Hyflux?

IMO for security reason, it should be nationalized at a term that is fair to all parties, it's easier said than done but it is necessary as there are not many alternative water sources in a land scarce nation like ours. However the election year is just round the corner, I just hope it will be handled delicately and transparently, it will inevitably inviting criticism especially from anti gov group, but I believe a responsible gov should choose to do the right thing over a vote pleasing thing.:p

Govt won't let it crash... its part of govts plan to keep SG supplied with water... especially when 老马 up North is playing pattern again...

PUB is going to take Tuasspring for Zero cost Rest of Hyflux is not their problem

Hyflux is a failure. It lost Sing$2 Billion in value.
Hyflux was worth about Sing$2.1 billion in 2010. 8 years later its market value was about Sing$165 million.
And with all the negative publicity.
Even public protest at Hong lim Green. How bad can it get? No idea.
Is it a scam? Depends on your point of view. Presumably officials may look into that aspect.
Do empathise with the poor retail investors. Some may have lost their life savings.
During the Rah Rah stage when Hyflux was the golden boy.
Ordinary people got swept away by the marketing spin and they began to bluff themselves.
Hyflux launched a perpetual securities financial product in May 2016 claiming 6 per cent annual return.
It was a way for the company to raise funds.
This is a problem indirectly created when banks offer near zero interest on your savings.
It may indirectly spur you to "invest" in stocks or financial products.
The DANGER is how easy it was to "invest" a lot of your hard earned savings into such schemes.
Ordinary people can use the ubiquitous ATM machines to do such "investment" and it is done in a few minutes.
Most of the time, you do not have a wise person standing next to you at the ATM, to advise caution.
A few hundred thousand of your savings can be "invested" away, just like that.
So easily. Through the ATM.
If the company proves to be a failure or a shell later on, a lot of your money is gone in a flash.
Hyflux said it cancelled a restructuring agreement with the Salim-Medco.
The truth may be the reverse. SM realised what a horror they were getting into and pulled out.

Long story... too good to have 6% interest.

A lesson learnt.

The best SingDollar FD rate is near 2%/year.
