Any concern on the aperture at f3.5 the largest ?

Sony Steady Shoot is always enabled.... please read before posting.
I am not trying to stir up trouble. But the manual only mentioned Steadyshot for video mode and if Steadyshot is always on, then why there is a need for an Anti Motion Blur mode.

i believe "Anti Motion Blur" is for subject motion, not photographer motion :)

Some no light image to share.
May times not even sure what I was framing and shooting.

I did tried to connect and re-connect but it still remain the same but the one thing I did not do is to restart the machine.
Will try again.
Thanks

I have the same problem when I first install the software and connect the camera to the PC. The option for GPS did not appear. But it appeared after I disconnected and reconnected the camera to the PC.

Yes in video mode it allows zoom, auto focus and even adjust exposure for different scene.

In video mode, can this cam zoom and auto focus at same time, like the panasonic TZ7 ?

Thanks Tomcat it is as what you have mentioned. When I reconnect the cam awhile ago it does install the GPS assist and is now working properly. :D

Just bought the HX5 from the IT show. I was there at about 6pm and there were only 5 units left. They are out of the champagne or silver color, only black is available. So no choice, got the black. I don’t mind black, it's just that I'm afraid it is painted on and the paint will chip off after a short while. With the silver, it is not painted on, so the finishing should last for much longer. Still charging battery, no chance to take photos yet. Didn’t really like the camera pouch that was given. It has zip on it, not good for “quick draw”. I prefer magnetic clasps. Fast to go in and out of the pouch. Also that pouch don’t look too good, too bulky for my taste. I thought they gave out SDHC card, but no, they gave me the Sony memory card. At least the Sony Photo Display Panel made up for it. :)
I bought the same unit too...and was so lucky. Asked one sales fella who said its sold out...but happened to bump into another who said there are a few just in...though only black too. Snapped it up right away!

I agree the pouch is a tad too big for my tastes, but nevermind..I can store my handphone in it too haha. And the display panel is really good stuff for something which is free! So happy I did not rush to buy this model before the show!

The HD movie does not seems to be very compatible with many computer video player including VLC media player but when played via other boxes like PS3, Oppo etc it works fine.
It allows for zoom, exposure variation and auto focusing during the duration of the movie taking.

In Windows, you can try splash to play the .mts file. http://www.mirillis.com/splash.html. It has a much better codec than VLC and can play AVCHD file smoothly.

Thanks will try them but actually I seldom play video on my PC, screen too small and PC too slow. I am used to play it back on TV including display of image. Find it much better and clearer as well.

Or may use MPC-HC also. Enables the use of DXVA for lower cpu usage.

no, no, the display panel is not free. It's factored into the cost. If you buy outside of the show, I'm sure you can get it for below $600. This deal is worth it if you need the freebies. For some people who already have Display Panel, tripod, etc... It's not worth it. Actually, third party batteries are a lot cheaper than the original. So whether the deal is worth it or not, depends on the individual. For me it was worth it :) but for bros who feels that the freebies will just collect dust at home, then buy from the usual shops. I read somewhere that you can get third party battery for USD$4.

does anyone knows the difference between Anti Motion Blur mode and the Scene: Sports mode ? I know Anti Motion Blur takes a few pics to eliminate motion. The sports mode uses a faster shutter to eliminate motion (at least I think it does that, or maybe it just have a large depth of field so that everything is in focus). Both achieve the same objective ? ie. to take sports action pics ? which one is better for taking sports, say football ? I want to freeze the action in sports.

btw has anyone tried the scene mode: Snow ? I was taking pics at the Kallang Ice Skating rink and thought I'll try this mode. When the mode is activated, everything on the LCD starts moving slowly. It's like the camera can't keep up with the motion of the skaters,ie. the skater's movement is not real time from the LCD. Anyone know why this is the case ? So I guess I can only use the Snow scene mode to take stationary objects in bright white background ?

For your info, the same products were on sale without most of the freebies such as the display panel just one week before the IT show, and sold at the same price. It is ridiculous to assume that the cost price of the products includes their associated freebies when the freebies are only offered during fixed promotional periods. Some shops will of course offer deeper discounts during this promotional period, but they actually cut their price, plus offer the same freebies. Are you still going to insist that their discounted prices factors in the cost of freebies?

Fact is, Sony products are especially know to maintain their high prices, and they tend to compete by offering freebies then to cut prices.

Thks for this ... looks like HX5 is a good choice compared to TZ10

and if u say the ISO is better then a 1000D .. wah loa , than means even EXR200 no fight la ? haha.. amazing

for pixel sweepers ;)

i am amazed by the level of detail.. anyone wants to make a guess of the ISO rating?

the only available light is from a distant table lamp... incredible

even my 1000D will struggle at ISO1600

Hi.. thks for the post again.. it made me go do some reseach .. anyway what i found was this..

at ISO1600.. its not gonna beat 1000D EOS , but its definitely looks better compared to TZ10, and surprisingly also looks better then EXR200 ... LX3 looks like its remaining as the best high ISO PnS, due to the sensor size i guess..

but no doubt from the sample photos i see... the HX5 is performing very good esp with the added features this camera gives..

Question now is, is there any other PnS with less Zoom range that have high ISO capability as good as the HX5 ??

My own tests at ISO 3200 showed that if you use the Handheld Twilight or Anti Motion Blur modes, the TX7/HX5 would completely beat the LX3 and Fuji F200 hollow. ;)
