HX-1

Maybe you would like to invest in a dedicated video cam if you want video function.

Actually the video is only secondary but it still must be of decent 720p quality. The still picture will be my primary useage. The movie mode from my LX-3 shot in 720p is very good just that the zoom is just too short for video. Hence a longer zoom is what I need. That's why the GH-1 is still my first choice as the picture is really fantastic and the video looks pretty good from what I've seen in the net. If it's under $2k I'll get it. What I love about the HX-1 is the Panorama function and zoom range. I'm a sucker for features in any gadget even if I hardly use it. Haven't seen how it performs in low light using IA mode. No chance to test as all shopping centres are too brightly lighted. Anyone have any shots taken in low light to show?

I'll make up my mind after the PC show. I can actually get the HX-1 from B&H for US$469 (S$689) as my friend is going to NYC next week. For S$180 less I have to forgo the warranty. The GH-1 is about US$1500 and it's not worth it since it doesn't come with International warranty. As for the HX-1 at US$469, the warranty is not really that important.

US$469 seems like a really good buy. The panorama function is definitely a great feature.

Free H1N1 too!! ;)

Well, don't forget to factor in Sales Tax. That'll be about 508 USD, about 736 SGD.

My son in US can order for me and he says the price quoted is the price he pays (no sales tax). He can arrange for the good to be self-collect since B&H is at a convenient location. In this case, my friend can collect it for me.

Why don't you consider buying in JB? RM1699 with 1yr tourist warranty which is valid in Singapore.

Night shot using iA mode...the circle in the pic represents the next pic at 26x zoom...

Never occur to me as I seldom go to JB. You mean Sony S'pore will accept their warranty? Did you get yours at City Centre? With 1 year warranty and about S$710, it looks tempting. Suprise it is so much cheaper in Malaysia. Can buy 16gb card + extra battery from the savings. I can probably go there next week as B&H is currently out of stock.

Thanks for posting those pictures and it look acceptable to me as I'm not too fussy about noisy pictures. How do you get 26x zoom?

The manager there said so far they did not hear of Sony Singapore refusing to honor the limited tourist warranty (which covers Singapore). When I saw the price, I did a doube-take, went back to change currency and got the HX-1 the following week!

The night pics were taken at quite dark conditions (w/o tripod and flash) so considering that, the picture quality is not bad. To get >20x zoom, simply reduce the picture quality ie instead of 9 mp, reduce to 6mp.

Does your package comes with MS card? Im thinking of bringing in my old Canon kit bag which came with the S5 IS and take every except the box just in case custom were to check. Do you encounter any problem?

The price is only for the camera, although if you join their member (for free), you get RM34 (i think) to spend. I blew the amount on a 4gig MS Pro Duo HG which comes to about S$45 (dunno if that's cheap or not). You will also get a very limited poster of Kaka in his AC Milan kit keke.

I drove in so they did not check for the goods that I bought, I suppose it should be ok if you bring your old camera bag along.
