HVL 58am or HVL 43am??

You have the wireless flash mode in your camera's flash modes. You can use it to trigger your F43.

Use what you already have.

Sorry sis/bro, the only flash trigger i know of onboard is the "built in flash" itself.
Would've gladly used em if it was radio instead...Am I missing a hidden feature here?

yep that was I've noticed also the so called wireless is actual optical flash trigger. that requires the onboard flash to be fired also =( but they have this pre-flash info the would transmit the ADI/TTL info thus ensuring you will have the correct exposure

I have bought a radio flash trigger (Photix Soldier) works well for me =) but only manual mode as it cant transmit the ADI/TTL info.

yes, set ur flash to wireless, set ur camera to wireless n fire away.. the pop-up flash will trigger the real flash

pls pardon any inaccuracies as this is memory work..

actually how would i know whether the ttl is working or not? if the flash fires n wrong exposure means not compatible? or it wun fire in ttl mode at all?

if youre using the 58 it should see the focal lenght from the LCD of the flash

of course, that's only if you're on TTL settings. in other modes you won't see it at all

Either you pop up the onboard flash or you buy a HVL-F20AM as a controller or you use either the 43 or the 58 as a controller... these are the standard ways to use off-camera wireless flash.... alternatively if you really want to go pro, then buy a Pocket Wizard system and use them as wireless controllers for the off-camera flash...

Just a note, 43AM can do what 58AM has. The main difference if you would like to know is:
Guide number ( flash power)
Port for ext battery charger is not present in 43AM,
Port for wired off camera flash is also not present in 43AM (only for A65/77/700/850/900 models),
Weathersealing in F43AM , not in F58AM
Weight,
Power adjustment - down to 1/128 for F43AM, only down to 1/32 for F58AM.

Hi I just came acroos this thread.

I just got a second hand hvl f58am. When i mount it on my NEX7 on auto mode TTL i dont see any focal length from the LCD of the flash. When i change the zoom length, all i hear is a whirring sound in the flash, but the display shows -- and i dont any focal length.

Note it doesnt have any problems firing up at all, just that the focal length dont show.

Does it mean my flash is faulty??

Heard from my colick that the HVL 43am is going to be discontinue soon and most places are oos.

I would prefer a much small flash to go along with my Nex 7 if to choose it.
The build in flash is retarded and take a while to flash.

I wouldn't call it retarded as its already better than most built-ins with the ability to tilt up.

there is always the hvl20am if you want smaller one =)
