How to uniform colour tones of footage from 2 or more semi-pro and DSLR vidcams ?

Hi Everyone,

I hope you guys and gals can help me out.
Recently, I was involved in a videoshoot involving 4 different cameras.

Panasonic HMC41
Nikon D7000
Canon 550D
Pentax K5

Each camera has it's own colour tone.

To ensure that the colour tone in the final video is consistent, as an editor, how do I streamline the process of uniforming or neutralizing the colour tones for all the footage I get from the cameras ?

on shoot,
i would try to shoot a macbeth chart or a colour chart for every new setup have some person stand in for skin tone as well. if you can't get a colour chart (or if you're shooting an event?) shoot something pure white.
then in post i would apply 3 way colour corrector to the shots and sample the white of the chart or something u know is pure white in the scene and tweak from there if necessary.

its very tricky especially when the lights are not hitting the surface of the white in the same direction but its a good way to start. if you use color u can take sample stills have them side by side in the window while you correct which is helpful.

Hi JasonJoseph,

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate it :)

I think, for my situation, post processing is the only way since the shoot is already over.

When using the 3-war colour corrector, do I apply it to one clip and then copy it to the rest of the clips in the timeline ? My timeline contain clips from all the 4 cameras next to each other.

Sorry for the novice question. This is the first time I have to edit footage from more than one camera

Likely, you will have to custom tweak three different filter settings for three of the 4 cameras then apply each setting to their respective clip. Use the auto white balance as a starting point and tweak the dials from there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHajxLjIsm8
