How to take the moon?

Actually i've tried taking but moon but cannot get the same closeness (of cos) and the amount of details on it. It's becos my lens can only reach 300mm and it's not a prime.

This is a full image taken with D2X through a Celestron C5 telescope (1250mm f/10). 12mp, Resized to 640x425 and sharpened.

Here is a 50% crop from the 12mp image. Didn't have a cable release so it was slightly blurred due to vibrations. At that kind of focal length, tripods/telescope mounts and camera vibration becomes very important.

Yupz...think to get a large picture of the moon, it's best to use focal lengths of over 1000mm.

just curious......is it possible to see a human being on the moon using this kind of zoom power? was looking a the craters and wondering that comparing them to a human being, humans should be visible

1st shot nt really processed, just cropped.

2nd shot was given around 120% sharpening. At that kind of zoom, you can actually see some sort of "distortion" due to the atmospheric winds (dunno how to explain this, can someone help explain?)..

so yup, images were more or less straight out from the camera

nope, not visible. was told that singapore can fill into one of those medium sized craters

i find black and white shots of the moon nicer thn those with the yellow cast.

if u try long enough, maybe u'll see the american flag at 500% crop:bsmilie:

Yupz, a tiny one can created a HUGE crater. It's the speed that it's travelling.

Yeah.. I was referring to the second shot. I have a friend who do a lot of astro shots. Atmospheric stability can greatly affect the viewing conditions. You might know him if you're involved in TASOS activities.

I prefer colour. For B&W, I would probably shoot on film instead. Maybe can try some Hubble images to see if the Amerrican flag can be seen?

Yeah.. usually the case. It's quite hard to get a spot on focus unless you use a magnifier. Your dad into astronomy also?

not really...he just invited his fren over to let me try out my cam on a telescpe..
