Yeah, don't try removing them yourself. I tried doing it once and the screen became smudgy

Its a matte surface, don't touch it with your fingers/whatever. Any oils etc. will just stick to it. I suggest you go get it replaced.

went to canon service centre today to replace focusing screen on my 350D.. $25 dollars. On the spot servicing. But............... no stock. gotta wait 1 or 2 looooooooooooooong weeks!!!! argh!!!

focusing screen replaced today at 21bucks. yessssss....finally....*update*

Hmmmm A while back I had alot of dust on my focusing screen too.
Done in a relatively dust free room: bathroom, where I ran a cold shower for 5 min to help reduce the amt of dust in the air.
Wore a nike dri fit shirt (basically no lint etc) + rubber glove.
1) I used a basketball pump, and pumped some air (using the needle) directed at the focusing screen with the mirror down. did it a few times
2) Next I took a very small but powerful vaccum cleaner to to "suck" near the mounting
3) repeat 1 -2 another time.
4) mirror lock up
5) repeat 1 - 2 - 1
6) release mirror lock - up
7) repeat 1 - 2

Tada.. a bit tedious, but it gave very good results.. removed almost ALL the dirt on my focusing glass..

my previous attempt at cleaning caused damage to the focusing screen. thus i had to change it. next i will be sure to try your method :)

How about dusts(big one) that are stuck in the lens, it appears as a blur spot on my pics, plus I don't know how the dust got in:cry: .
