How to properly critique on images?

If a posted image is really bad or just a snapshot, I won't post anything.

If it has some merit but has some flaws, I'll point out the good things about it first and then I'll point out the flaws. "A bit of sugar helps the medicine go down"

There are many ways to get your message across, and usually clobbering someone doesn't go very far.

However, some people just can't take any sort of criticism, no matter how nicely it has been put. e.g. Wisp and Student.

I guess this is typical accepted behavior at CS - so pp who post for feedback and have no comments, you know why! ;)

Should this be the encouraged behavior for pp to learn? Probably not.

Tell that to Wisp. Several of the photos he has posted have met this fate.

Whether it is typical behaviour in CS? I don't know. But it is a policy I have chosen to adopt bec I wish to avoid confrontation. As long as some people here show that they are unable to take criticism, this policy of mine will stand. (And all the Admins, Mods and Superusers say "YIPPIE!")

Also, it takes time and effort to critique photos and I will only do it for photos that show some merit or are from photographers who show sincerity in their willingness to learn (and not posting with the sole intention of garnering praise)

Plus, there are too many of the "OSCMIM and LCMIM" group session shots that litter the Portraits and Poses section with the same old poses and mismatched clothes, that one has to be more descerning when it comes to taking time to critique. As the saying goes: "You've seen one, you've seen them all". Or loosely translated: "They are usually crap anyway so why bother" :)
