Buy travel insurance for the camera. The cost is premium is just 10% of the value of your gears. I always get those insurance......why sacrifice the image quality when you spend so much to travel to those exotic places which could be just once in a life time!

As for storage, just use your camera bag. fungus will not grow if you keep using your camera. Fungus will only grow when there are still air and moisture for prolong time lacking in either, fungus will not grow.

agreed.

travel insurance for your camera is an important aid if it ever gets stolen.

to TS: if you are really worried that fungus really grows( which will unlikely happen) use a really small sized pillow case and fill it up with silica gel and place it in a corner of your bag.

personally i won't do that because it just adds on to the weight on the bag.

Thanks to all for sharing your ideas here.

I have learnt lots of practical methods and the importance of getting insurance for my equipment.

As I still have some time in preparing for the trip, I shall look for a good and light bag. Likely I will be shooting every other day and I have learnt from many pals here that this will keep the fungus growing at bay. So likely I will simplify my approach; just go with a good camera bag and clean my equipment regularly.

You should be ok, but as suggested already, throw some silica gel packs in your camera bag and enjoy Europe!

Most convenience stores (7-11 type) around the world have microwave ovens. Just buy something and chit chat abit with the staff.

Germany doesn't have any 7-11. Petrol stations are open 24/7 - but do you think they will allow frying some silica gel in microwave ovens designated for food? Would you want to have food from this oven afterwards?

Very reasonable. Fresh air and daily usage is better than silica socks. Germany and Middle Europe has moderate climate with average humidity in the range of 40-60%. During rain is goes up to 90% of course, but nothing to worry about. Hot summer days and subzero temperatures will even bring RH levels of 20%. In return, stagnant air in plastic bags only helps fungus to grow.
For Egypt, looking at these webites

Humidity is rather defined by local climates (relation / distance to sea and seasonal wind systems). Overall Egypt has a lower humidity than SG.
