How to earn some money with Landscape Photograph

Hi CS guys.. I always had passion in landscape photography but is it possible to earn some money with it? If possible, what are the ways? Share? Thank in advance :D

The questions should be "Who will buy your photos?" :bsmilie:

Tourist Magazine, Newspaper, Book cover publishers ?

If you can answer this question then you will be able to earn money.

If you can't answer this question, obviously you don't know how to sell your photos so the answer is NO.

i realised all the top landscapes photographers have a few things in common: (in flickr and over here in clubsnap)
1. they have a large fan base/audience interested in their work
2. they have a constant stream of new photos
3. they have a large collection of photos in their portfolio

i think if you want to start earning money you need to consider if you can achieve these 3 things. (not saying that just having these 3 things will make you successful or earn a lot of money, but will be a good start)

Although it is easier to earn money if you are famous. :bsmilie:
It doesn't mean you cannot earn money if you are not.
Most important thing is that there must be a demand for your photos.

What kind of photo competitions you are referring?
If it is those by big organizations for a specfic theme and with prize rewards, than better forget it, once you submit your photos to them, your photos will become their property, regardless winning or not. Please read the term and condition before submitting any photos.

There are many better ways to kiss goodbye to your photos, but definately not this way.

In Singapore's context, it is very difficult to make money from landscape photography. There is no culture here in collecting and displaying fine art photographs. I have been to Peter Lik's galleries in Las Vegas and another one near Queenstown, NZ. His photos are impressive but they are very large and expensive. Unless you live in a large property, it would be difficult to display these photographs.

Three years ago, I attended a workshop in the US taught by a well-known landscape photographer. He sells his photos, but supplements his income by organizing workshops and writing books. He is succesful because his photographs are saleable and there is a market in the US.

I have sold several photographs to some of my friends, but it is not going to make me rich! My photos have been published in a book for charity, The Leica User Forum Book 2012 (12 inch Edition: Premium Paper) | Book Preview Recently, one of my photos even made it to the shortlist in the Travel category in the Sony World Photogeraphy Awards 2012, Travel - World Photography Organisation Although, I did not win in that category, the photo will be printed and displayed in London in the Winners Competition exhibition. But I doubt I can make a living trying to sell landscape photos in Singapore. In fact, recently one of my church members saw a photo she liked in my website and she asked another friend to do a painting of my photo! May be I should have my photos painted. At least they might be more saleable!

Stock photography is still a viable way to earn some passive income but to get good in it is just the same as any genre of photography; it takes years and years of hard work to learn the market, the system, built the portfolio, and eventually you start making money but might find actually you don't enjoy making that money afterall coz you ended up shooting for the market than for your own creativity expressions.

Refer to Catchlights' post again. That shot of morning mists in Singapore is way rarer, harder and way more beautiful than the Chinatown snapshot, but Chinatown shot sells. So go figure.

that is truth, after all, you are not shooting what you like, but I like the feeling of my photos making money for me while I'm sleeping.
