Haw come don't have 250mb option one? :)

i saw this 500gb WD external 3.5" hard disk at $139, is it worth it?

or is this better? Hitachi 180gb 2.5" for $89 ?

i seen other alternatives are shops, but cheapest seem to be the ones above mentioned.

thinking of having more space to store photos...i only have 40gb on my laptop and an external 2.5" 80gb hard disk.

Internal 80 + 120 and external 160+160+250+40+40

+ Notebook 160

i have about 6-7TB. 2x1TB, 4x500GB, 4x400GB, plus a lot of loose ones for offline backup, from 800MB to 300GB.

Ethernet (there's the 10mbps, the 100mbps and the Gigabit 1gbps) <-- gigabits per min

Gigabit network is gigabits per SECOND, not minute.

esata is the undisputed king of external speed (by a HUGE margin). But you have to deal with the incredible heat generated by the external devices. They can easily run into 55-60 degrees (idling) without proper cooling.

Depends on whether you need more portable storage or more space. Seems like if you don't need so much space, just get the Hitachi 180GB. The 2.5" usually use an extra USB cable for power instead of a separate power brick, one less item to carry around. And notebook hard drives are also usually more rugged since notebooks are designed to be moved around. They're usually slower though.

5tb in the computer, another 5 TB of backups

hey sbs99 - waz wondering if you can share where you've seen it (to save me time shopping around) - SL or Funan?

Also do you know what the model is for the external drives?

Should have an option for 6TB and above :bsmilie:

I have
1) 2 x 1TB RAID 1
2) 4 x 2TB RAID 10 (External controller + array + ups)
3) 2 x 250gb in RAID 0 (External controller + array)
4) 500gb + 80gb + 120gb
5) 80gb + 250 gb portable hdd
Usable:~ 6TB
Actual: 11TB

All usually connected to my main PC. Not counting my perpherial systems/notebooks
Think my recent 4x2TB was a bit of an overkill... But dumping hundreds of DVD backups is worth it.

Overkill? What makes you say that? :bsmilie:

But not sure what you mean by 4 x 2 TB RAID 10. Do you mean a 8 HDD RAID 10 with 1 TB HDD (for total of 4 TB space)? Just curious.
