hee ... dunno, mah ... :embrass:

Its ok since it is in Hong Kong. :) A lot of people buy from this shop as it is one of the better ones there. There are a few more but I can't remember them offhand.

HK2350= SGD??

And you ordered thru email and asked them to ship over?

Juv: you can try making your own cable release if you're into DIY.

Its around SGD532. I asked a friend who went back there for holiday to get for me. I don't know about the postage but there is a string in photo.net about buying in HK.

I'm interested if it's possible with DIY remote cable released. The normal cable released looks possible for a DIY.

Geof: I have DIY-ed normal cable release. am thinking of doing remote when I"m free. but not easy unless you can get an actual IR remote to open up and see the circuit and then do reverse engineering. Alternatively need to make a circuit to read off the IR signal from the remote then use the signal to make a new circuit (very cheem and diff). the easiest alternative to me is to use the normal cable release port, but make a RF remote control to trigger it.

Oh and... Sulhan!! you reading this? what you think? RF remote? can receive from any direction, good idea rite?

The IR remote cable released for Minolta cost well over 200 pound. Which I find ridiculous.

The normal remote cable release for Minolta is not the same as the one say... FM2 uses. The one that has a steel shaft pooking out of the cable's end. Minolta's AF normal cable release have 3 pins at its camera;s end. I'm saying remote cable release because that is what the catalogue says.

it's only $20 more for the longer cable release cable

but is 5 metres practical?

Well, when I do get a cable, I'll get the L version. Alhough most situation you do not need the extra length but when a long one you can say.... hide somewhere and when the target enter the range, click! ;) Well its just some stupid example.

Maybe there is someone here with the S or L version of it and made some comment??

hmm ... I think long cable would not help if I was trying to do street photography --> 5 metres of cables kinda attracts attn, ya?

Juv: you can always tie up excess length of the 5m to become say 1 or 2 m long cable, then when you want, just untie to get 5m. or just buy the shorter one, and cut the wire and add on your own wire to extend it as long as you want to! I think if you buy black wires and black shrink wrap and solder the ends, you can make it look quite neat and not so obviously DIY-ed.

Ninja: IR only works in a certain range and angle of coverage only rite? so must stand in front of camera?

hhhmm ninja you're right! Juv sounds like trying to take voyeur shots! :bsmilie:

like hide behind bush and secretly press the remote switch....

erhm ... I'm not the sneaky one who wanted to buy the 5m one and hide, leh

people don't know you're shooting at them, won't tense up & won't be on guard

natural is gd, right?

I turned my T series Canon cable release into a Minolta one by cutting the Canon connector off and made a Minolta end for it (by using a knife on a CDROM audio connector).

I got some 3.5mm stereo plug/sockets from the local hobby electronics shop (These things are used for 'Walkman' style head phones) and 'joined' the cut cable with them. Now I have interchangable ends - Canon or Minolta !.

I also put connectors on a long length of telephone cable, and how have a 7 metre extension I can plug in. (The telephone cable isn't really suitable, but I had it lying around and the cable release is a simple electrical circuit, so it doesn't care about the cable).
The orginal Canon cable is in fact identical to the sort of cable you would use to wire up a set of head phones, and this cable is commonly available, is quite flexable and usually black in colour!.

You do need to be handy with a soldering iron, stereo head phone wire is difficult to solder properly with out practice...
