I'm actually not a fan of grain, unless i'm taking 3200 film. The reason i underate my film is that my B&W instructor advised that by halving your EI, you increase the tonal range in the shot.
Yes i would need to compensate by underdeveloping the negs, and that i know is a trial and error thing. I kinda know my timing for Ilford Delta 100 already, but since i've decided to shoot tmax400 for MF, i need to recalibrate. I do find that if get my developement timing right, the tones are richer.
Anyway, i also develop my film at 20 degrees, again at the behest of my instructor.
