I have a old R3 with Summicron 50mm and 90mm...

Bue due to lack of use... I am going to convert my 90mm Summicron to Nikon Mount... And stick the 50mm onto the R3 permanently...

Maybe use it to teach my daughter photography when she is old enuf... :embrass:

Leica 80mm for portraits of course:

Hi, can I ask what do u guys think of the 24mm 2.8 Elmarit ? Someone's made me an offer and I'm sitting on it.

oh no....Leitax just replied me saying the 24 Elmarit will not clear my D700's mirror. I have to search for another wide.

Yeah, but not APS Nikons. Why not get the 28mm? More legendary?

I have many 28s. But after looking at the pics, always wished they were taken with something wider. Funny what an extra 4mm does.

Or you could look at Nikon's own 14-24/2.8. Expensive and different color rendition from the Leicas, I'm sure, but it will certainly deliver the goods. I can't wait to lay my hands on one of these and try it on a FF camera. Rental would be a good way to go.

Leica has announced there will be no more stock of R9 and R lenses. This looks like the end-of the R system. But there is no news of when the R10 will be launched. Given Leica's focus on the S2 and the current global economic situation, the R10 might be further delayed.

The R has always played second fiddle to its M brother. But there are some very fine lenses. Let's keep the R lenses alive.

Maybe prices will finally catch up with the M series as collector's start snapping them up. :bsmilie:

Cheers,

Unlikely, it is an EOL (End-of-Life) system. I think all users of Canon should at least have the 50 Cron, 80mm, 100mm, 90mm APO and the 180 Elmarit APO! Great stuff. All very usable indeed.

"Leica has announced it is discontinuing its R-Series manual focus SLR. In a letter sent to dealers, the company said the R9 and R-series lenses would no longer be produced. The camera, which was compatible with Leica's DMR digital back, still featured on the company's stand at PMA in Las Vegas, despite the move. The company said that insights gained during the development of the S2 (its first autofocus camera), will feed into the development of a future generation of the R-system."

Future generation of R-system.

It will be AF. But FD to EOS-style ( EOL system ), or Nikon F-style ?

Is it conceivable for Leica to have 3 product lines? Hard to imagine when the S2 is already sized like a DSLR.

I'm hearing rumours overseas dealers are dumping new Leica R cos of discontinuation. Has anyone seen discount prices ?
