try to find R 50/1.4 or R 35-70/3.5 E67 (very close up like macro), no regret:thumbsup:

I use latest F1.4 chip on 1DSMK3, very accurate, if focus not match, it will stop the shuttle to work until focus reach target

for R , best IQ come from its biggest aperture (contax lens wide open not sharp at all)which make view finder clear and clean, so stop down does not give too sharp image than its wide open

after tests, R 28-70 E60 (sigma) R 35-70 E60 (minolta), R35-70/4 ROM (keyocera, IQ quite silimar with zeiss 35-70/3.4) these 3 not worthy at all

the rare 28-90 ASPH not bad, but 90mm only have F4.5

for the ass issue, it is very easy, just shave its plastic ring. no harm to the lens and glass, still perfect working in the DMR.

cut cut cut...

now the canadian start use contax 24-85mm on the SD14 already, impressive DIY work:)

I searched the leica forum and don't seem to find any post suggesting that the f3.5 is superior than the latest f4 version.
But I do find many comments stating that the Contax is a better lens than the Leica f4.
Is your comment based on your own finding?

Oh yes... Thanks for reminding me about this lens. Almost 4got about it. Really hate using the bulky 24-105L. This Contax zoom is such a pleasure to use. Broke one of it and replaced it with another.
Really missed using this lens. Will be using it on my 5D2 soon!

Thanks to my bro lending me the Summilux R35, please tell me which do you prefer... It doesn't matter what lens was used for the other :)

Haha, imagine if this is a trick question, both images taken with the same lens and just did some PP! :bsmilie:

But regardless, I much prefer the first, even though I like warm colors in general. The second image is a little bit jaundiced whereas the first image is cooler, greens, blues and orange looks nicer.

Not a trick question :)

The first is the R.

Well if that is indeed the case then I'm glad to be able to see the difference...otherwise cannot justify using Leica glass.

There's a number of stories out there about supposed critics that go 'ooh' and 'aah' at a photo, saying it has the Leica glow, has lovely bokeh typical of Leica glass, superb saturation etc...

And then the photographer pulls out a P&S camera with a cheapy lens. :bsmilie: Take that Leicaphiles!

isn't the 28-90 ASPH the current version?
not sure if it will clear the Canon mirror...

I have used the Leica R 28-90mm ASPH with a Canon 1DMk3 body (1.3 crop) and the Tagotech adapter without any problems or needing to shave down the lens rear shroud. I think the secret is with the thickness of the adapter. Not sure about the FF bodies. :)

shave ASS is about t6o use them in FF, not 1.3X

35-70/3.5 E67 is rare. ... 35-70/28 E77 more rare,,, both are costy, the 35-70/3.5 E67 cost me about 3K and F2.8 cost me 7K USD...this is why people seldom use them in the forum

35-70/4 ROM are very common, it is made by Keyocera, you think it can beat keyocera itsself contax 35-70/3.4? no lah, JAP are smart.

U have the f2.8 version?!!! Woow!!!!
Can I try out out this lens at your work place???? ;p

But for 1/10th the price of your Leica 35-70/3.5 E67, the Contax is a super bargain!

Better not say...

But it is definately not a P&S.... or any kit lens :nono:

use high-res FF body, RAW 100% --500% crop center to corner to compare, that will be easy.
avoid APS-C machine and old 5D

I've ASPH 90 and 100mm macro (2 of the sharpest Leica lenses), and 85L. The Canon is razor sharp and in no way is it inferior to the Leica. It all comes down to preference of taste....
